You sure about us going straight into the groups? BBC says otherwise:

English clubs have three places in the Europa League. As Arsenal have claimed a Champions League spot, it means their FA Cup final opponentsHull will enter in the group stage.

The fifth-placed Premier League side, which is virtually assured of being Everton, will enter the play-off round, while the Capital One Cup winners (or in this case, the sixth-placed side, see below) will go into the Europa League third qualifying round.

Stoke had to play qualifications and Wigan didn't. I thought the runner up doesn't get the same privilege as the cup winners.

Honestly though I could be wrong or the BBC could be, we've both got rather dodgy records.

Not sure even UEFA know right now! Pretty confusing either way but from what I can decipher from this website http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedel2014.html we will be seeded either way so shouldn't be anything to worry about either way. Not having to play those extra games would be nice though!

EDIT: Actually think the rules have changed since Stoke played. For the playoff round you now get drawn into one of 6 groups (6 seeded teams, 6 unseeded) and there's then a separate draw to work out which unseeded team you play. Typical UEFA farce

Here's an update on the finances in the Europa League. 1.3 million euros for the group stages are definitely in our bags but anything more than change comes from the semi-finals onwards.
  • First qualifying round: €120,000
  • Second qualifying round: €130,000
  • Third qualifying round: €140,000
  • Play-off round elimination: €150,000
  • Base fee for group stage: €1,300,000
  • Group match victory: €200,000
  • Group match draw: €100,000
  • Group winners: €400,000
  • Group runners-up: €200,000
  • Round of 32: €200,000
  • Round of 16: €350,000
  • Quarter-finals: €450,000
  • Semi-finals: €1,000,000
  • Losing finalist: €2,500,000
  • Winners: €5,000,000

Plus the gates and match day income from 36k + fans for each game, all extra income as the games aren't included with season tickets. Not sure but we might get money from either C5 or ITV for TV rights as well.

I'm looking forward to it.

Robles, Springthrope, Garbutt, Browning, Duffy, McAleny etc will get a good run out as Martinez wants them to get games under their belt.

Barkley, Stones, Oviedo, McCarthey will take further steps in developing.

Gibson, Kone, McGeady, Hibbert etc will carry the young lads through it.

Then you've got the main squad that'll play their part.

There are three places in the UEFA Europa League available: the FA Cup winners will enter at the Group Stage; the fifth place team in the Barclays Premier League will enter at the Play-Off stage; and the Football League Cup winners will enter at the Q3 stage.

In the event the FA Cup winners are qualified for the UEFA Champions League the FA Cup runners-up will qualify, but in the place reserved for the lowest ranking Barclays Premier League representative. The place with direct access to the Group Stage will be given to the club that finishes in the highest position in the Barclays Premier League of the clubs qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

Fifth place has to play one qualification round unless the FA cup winner is in the CL, in which case they (5th placed team) gain the direct to group stage place with the FA cup runner up getting the lowest ranked qualification position.

Getting into semi will get you a M Gueye. The prize money is a joke if you compare that with CL.

Sort of wish we were in qualifying rounds...season starts earlier then and we get to watch Everton more.
