Less teams = less games = less tickets sold = less money. Won't happen, though I agree in principleI like the Europa league and hope we are in it next season, but there are fundemental problems with it.
There are too many teams involved in it, too many games and some serious "cannon fodder" teams in it at the qualifying stage and group stage, then all the champions league 3rd place teams drop in.
I think they should reduce the number of games, either by reducing the number of teams that qualify initially or removing the champions league 3rd place teams.
We won't win the Europa league, the compitions a joke, crap money, crap teams(in the groups) and being on itv4 is not tv exposure in my eyes.
All it's means is we play loads of Sundays meaning were on Sky a lot less.
As I've said before the Europa league should be played on Wednesday as no body watches it anyway
Some of our fans attitudes to this astound me. Similar to Martin O'Neill whilst at Villa. Went out of Europe at the first stage so that he could focus on qualifying for it again the next season.
To win the Europa it's loads of extra games.
If we get 5th it's
2 qualifiers
6 league matches
8 knock out matches
1 final
Total of 17 games 19 if 6 and we'd make just 15 mil.(not including gate money). We need to spend double that to have any chance of winning.
10m euros if you win, share of tv revenue, gate receipts and night games at Goodison. Yes for me
