Not the best of days for us in the Champions League really.

Panathinaikos i think are poor, they've gone out to Líege, 2-1 on aggregate. So they'll get an unseeded team in the next round. They have a coefficient of 30.221, which again is higher than Everton.

Celtic, who are, as it stands 2-0 down at home to Legia Warsaw, are set to go out, their coefficient of 36.813, is superior to ours, so if you're basing it on teams who are 'expected' to go through, then Everton would actually drop a place in the coefficients.

Sparta Prague went out after losing on the away goal ruling to Malmo FF, after a 2-0 defeat, saw them draw 4-4 on aggregate. Their coefficient of 28.870, is better than Everton's.

A result which would have affected us regardless was Dnipro Vs. Copenhagen. Dnipro were eliminated after losing 2-0 on the night and on aggregate. Their coefficient of 32.193 is better than Everton's again, but we neither move up, or down. Copenhagen, with a coefficient of 45.260, are still active, and subsequently, their place will mean Everton cannot gain from them progressing, we knew this already, as they are part of the 6 teams with higher coefficient in the final round of the CL.

As it stands, RB Salzburg are due to progress, as they are leading 2-0 on the night to Garabag of Azerbaijan, and 3-2 on aggregate, their progression is good for Everton, as Qarabag have a lower coefficent than Everton, whereas Salzburg do not.

Another positive for Everton is that Steaua Bucharest progressed, their higher coefficient meant that they'd go above Everton, Aktobe have a lower coefficient. This is a plus.

Besiktas progressing, could be seen as a negative, as Feijinoord were knocked out. Besiktas, with a coefficient of 32.840, progressing means that 5 teams with a higher coefficient are guaranteed to drop in from the Champions League final round into the Group stage, they can no longer be eliminated earlier.
Zenit progressed against AEL, so their coefficient carries on, which is a plus for Everton.

So............. are we any clearer who our opponents might be yet?

The Europa League is the more important one, obviously, effectively the 'big' teams in the Non-Champions route were our problem, if they went out. Effectively, Bert Kassies table will show us one further down now thanks to Celtics elimination. The 5 who went out out of the Non-Champions route in the next round were always gonna be higher than us.

I'm thoroughly confident we'll be in pot 2.

Cheers Barney
So we're currently in Pot 3, but you think we'll move up to Pot 2.
On that basis I'd go for the following good aways ......
Pot one - Bilbao or Sevilla
Pot three - Moscow, Vienna or Tel Aviv
Pot four - Tiraspol from Moldova or Warsaw

What you want to look at is the projected list for the 4th Qualifying rounds...

Everyone from Lyonnais down to Borussia Monchengladbach have a coefficient above us. So we'd now need 3 more teams to go out, for us to be sound I think, of those, Cluj, Viktoria Plzen and PSV still have to win. We could be in Pot 2 by the time the next round is drawn out.

In that case, we'd need 10 teams above us to go out, for Pot one  It won't happen. But we'll get Pot Two i'm sure of it, i mean, have you seen how bad Celtic are?

Yea, Celtic look grim this year. My son's working in Warsaw and went to the first leg against Legia.
Said they were dreadful. Legia would be a good draw.

It'd be useful to know when the away games are.
At the moment I've got the Wed, Thurs and Fri booked off work for all six options!

I posted something about this, but apparently after they've drawn you out, they also allocate you a place... so 1-4, and the games are in the UEFA Handbook, so it's 2 vs 3 and 4 vs. 1 in gameweek one.
Where does it say in the uefa handbook that after the draw is made, they will allocate us a number? Not meaning to sound like I doubt you, but coming back from Canada, so trips take a bit of planning. When I looked at match day 3, it looked liked both 2 and 3 were at home, so took that to mean pots 2 and 3, meaning I could catch 3 games in an 8 day trip, with 2 at Goodison...... You're saying that's not the case and we will have to wait until the actual draw regardless?

It is now fairly straightforward

Tonight's Europa 3rd Q matches are obviously critical

Olympique Lyon Fra 97.300 - 4-1 after away leg
PSV Eindhoven Ned 64.862 - only 1-0 up after home leg
Viktoria Plzen Cze 40.870 - 1-1 after away leg

Club Brugge Bel 32.260 - 3-0 up after home leg
CFR Cluj Rom 25.45 - 0-1 down after away leg

If any of these lose we move up..

these are projected to join a further 12 sides that have a higher coefficient in the 4th QR

Therefore we need 3 of these (up to 17) to lose

Olympique Lyon *3 Fra 97.300
Internazionale Ita 95.387
Tottenham Hotspur Eng 75.949
PSV Eindhoven *3 Ned 64.862
Villarreal Esp 53.542
FC Twente Enschede Ned 50.862
Metalist Kharkiv Ukr 45.693
Viktoria Plzen *3 Cze 40.870
PAOK Thessaloniki Gre 37.720
Celtic Sco 36.813
Club Brugge *3 Bel 32.260
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Ukr 32.193
Trabzonspor Tur 31.340
Panathinaikos Gre 30.220
Sparta Praha Cze 28.870
CFR Cluj *3 Rom 25.451
Borussia Mönchengladbach Ger 25.328

*3 (playing tonight EL 3)

There are some decent teams in the non-seeded section - Feyenoord, Torino, St Etienne, Dinamo Moscow for example are currently unseeded.

Additional that number (3 teams from 17) would need to increase by however many of the following 4 seeded teams lose in the final Q Rd of the Champions League (so potentially 4 from 18 matches, 5 from 19 etc.)

FC Salzburg *3 Aut 46.185
Steaua Bucuresti ** Rom 39.451
APOEL Nicosia *3 Cyp 37.650
BATE Borisov ** Bls 33.725

So we're looking for these 4 teams to win.

in the non-champions pot of the CL 4QR (including Arsenal) all 10 teams are above us so these results are not relevant to us.
