European premier league bombshell.....

It would be an unmitigated disaster the PL will become worth a lot less in terms of prestige and revenue from home and abroad , a huge amount of interest will be focused on this new league .

Moshiris investment will not be an investment anymore as the value of any club will decrease through lost revenues and sponsorship . The PL is blue ribboned brand at the moment it will lose a lot of that to a European league

If it happens and the astronomical figures are there then there will be a quick clamour for a European league 2 imo , I’m praying for this development as this could be something that halts Bramley Moore

fixed it for ye

You’d have to be minted to get to all the aways as a fan.

Let them do one.

And lets be honest, part of the appeal you'd imagine for their plastic fans at the moment is their continual CL participation gives them enough money to at least laud it to an extent in the Premier League. If they don't have that and are just 2nd tier plodders behind the best teams in Europe then their glory hunters will get very bored, very quickly. I mean how happy would PSG and Juve fans be if they go from winning everything to winning nothing?

I think that with technology being as it is, and their clear ruthless focus on money that they will have been/be looking at ways to own the entire distribution channel.

I think it might have been touched on during the big picture nonsense talks.

Murdoch would love a slice of that pie but FSG and co are not charities.

I agree 100% with your first paragraph. But, in what may be termed a perverse way, the RS and ManUre threatening to start their own distribution channel to the exclusion of the major TV companies might make those TV companies drive big money their way. Those two really are trying to grab the game by the financial testicles...

In a few years time they will probably decide on a European League 2 and that's when Rangers and Celtic will be invited.
Unfortunately all of this has been the bigger picture for many years.

I would be hugely surprised if Scotland (ranked around 49) and any of it's clubs are thought about for a microsecond tbh, they aren't even middling sides in Europe and struggle to qualify for even the easier Champions league group stages despite automatic qualification for the qualifiers. We know about the potential and size of them in Britain because it's on our TVs and in our papers, but there's absolutely no focus on their leagues in Europe and no interest in their teams where it matters ,(except for ex pat's abroad)

At least all this is showing is that the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd are absolutely terrified of other clubs catching up to them and potentially over taking them, that’s all it’s about really. They’re looking for any means to escape somewhere where they know they can compete without facing any financial hits due to lower league positions, missing out on Europe etc.. they’re desperate for a financial safety net. The power control project was about stopping other clubs from progressing and that’s exactly what this is, it’s protecting their own club from any financial hits. Their arse has gone, especially Man Utd’s who are well and truly a spent force.

They won't pay more than their margin though. And I doubt if these clubs own a platform, possibly through an affiliate app to their websites or the like that the TV companies would be able to compete with financial packages. The yanks will want all the ad revenue, subscriptions, the whole nine yards, so to say.

Let’s be honest, give it a year or two and fans won’t be flocking to these games. Can you see all these teams bringing 3000 to old Trafford and the like every week? It’ll be a joke and end up being played in places like Mumbai just so they can fill a stadium and get some decent tv ratings.

Manchester Derby 4 times a year lol

As said before...I don't see it being that bad as you make out.

PL TV rights are currently £9billion. CL (which this will replace) is around £2billion.

These teams will still be in their domestic league. What it does do is guarantee income at a higher level for these 18 teams rather than gamble on a domestic league finish

Sounds mental now, but if you consider that pre-Fergie, in recent times Man U was basically a cup team like Tottenham (but with a better pedigree). It seems a natural cycle for them to slip back into that reality.
