European premier league bombshell.....

So it’s the big two (RS and Red Mancs), plus three of Chelsea, Arsenal, blue Mancs and Spurs. Spurs look most vulnerable to miss out, but with Levy in charge they have a shrewd operator.

It’s inevitable it will happen. Games between the big clubs generate worldwide interest. RS vs Red Mancs getting over 100k attendance for a friendly game in the US, no other English fixture would get close to that figure. That interest is mirrored in global TV viewing figures. Unfortunately money talks. I grew up not knowing (or caring) about money in football. Now its what most fans talk about which is sad.

Celtic (and to a lesser extent Rangers for those with a British identity) have a shout at being invited as they have a global support base among Irish people (myself included). In financial terms they are massively underachieving in Scotland.

Not seeing that Celtic global support base tbh. The likes of Southampton have more Twitter, Facebook & Instagram followers than them. Big in Scotland and Ireland but that’s it.

it's just their usual last resort attempt at leverage to get their Big Deal rammed through.
Offer them a choice of the deal which gives the top6 more power over the game and the rest of the leagues a bit more TV money, or have the big boys walk away to Europe with all the cash.

Pushing it having 5 English teams in a super League. I'd suspect the other countries would want equal representation, so either have a ridiculous 40 team league or cut more UK teams out of the picture. Given its the rs and utd driving it, it would seem obvious which teams would be cut.

I think it'll be great.

Those 5 clubs will be completely irrelevant to anyone else in the domestic leagues. None of this big 6 bollocks, none of this "champions league team" it'll be a straight divide...the league or this stupid one.

The thing is if this was about the fans in any way we'd be hearing about it. But it transparently isn't. It is for the money makers at the top and absolutely no one else.

How would we be doomed?

If all the top 6 leave the league and we stay we would be topping that competition.

Moshiri can still pay off the stadium out of pocket if he wanted to because FFP doesn't consider infrastructure investments.

We would lose some of our TV revenue and some of our players to the super league.

It wouldn't be a disaster.

It would be an unmitigated disaster the PL will become worth a lot less in terms of prestige and revenue from home and abroad , a huge amount of interest will be focused on this new league .

Moshiris investment will not be an investment anymore as the value of any club will decrease through lost revenues and sponsorship . The PL is blue ribboned brand at the moment it will lose a lot of that to a European league

If it happens and the astronomical figures are there then there will be a quick clamour for a European league 2 imo , I’m worried about this development as this could be something that halts Bramley Moore

Tonight..in the Europeeann Sooooooooperrrrrr Leaaaguuuueeee

Manchester against Liverpooolllllllahhhhhhhh

Both teams charge out like the NFL..

Stuff it, get Vince Mcmahon to commentate..

absolutely, and all the reds who go the match are going to be the ones screwed most over this, forced to sit next to even more tourists whilst watching PSG’s multi billion pound squad score a sixth in front of the legendary Kop

As someone else has pointed out, given the world-wide interest in the likes of the RS, ManUre, Real Madrid, Barca, etc., do you not think the Sky/BT/ESPN would not follow THEM...?

I think that with technology being as it is, and their clear ruthless focus on money that they will have been/be looking at ways to own the entire distribution channel.

I think it might have been touched on during the big picture nonsense talks.

Murdoch would love a slice of that pie but FSG and co are not charities.

Let’s be honest, give it a year or two and fans won’t be flocking to these games. Can you see all these teams bringing 3000 to old Trafford and the like every week? It’ll be a joke and end up being played in places like Mumbai just so they can fill a stadium and get some decent tv ratings.
