It’s clear we had the reins removed and were given permission to play up and attack. We just need more training and open play experience. We’ve been held back so long we don’t know how to play like that.

5 or 6 wins may do it, but I doubt anybody can realistically see that many at the moment - you need goals for that. 5 wins 5 draws and we'll almost certainly be fine but it'll be cutting it tight. If the owners don't bring in players I think it's fair to say they weren't concerned at all about us getting relegated. Nobody gambles so much with a club's future like this with what's at stake.

Doubt it - they can score goals. They've only failed to score twice since the middle of September, whereas we've gone goalless in over 80% of our games since then.

Didn’t really get the O’Brien sub, if his reasoning was to add height to the attack then surely putting Patterson on for young and O’Brien on instead of Myko.

Sad outcome to a dull game. Villa we’re wasting so much time and going down like cheap whores. Ref was poor.

A lot of effort for very little, but it was marginally better than some of the previous garbage.

Oh for a striker and a playmaker!

I was encouraged by the performance , which still had Dyches breath all over it.

Thought Villa were streaky to get the win tbh, and with more consistent, better officials and VAR, I think the outcome is different.

Theres two solid penalty shouts that I’ve seen given for most other teams in the league this season totally missed/ignored, then the fouling and subsequent playacting/diving from the Villa side was laughable, but the ref bought every dive and ignored many of their fouls - we need to complain as it isn’t the first time he’s reffed us so badly.

Hopefully that’s the last we see of doucure, Harrison and young - simply not good enough.

We need to change the shape to 3-5-2, get obrien in at cb, patto and Myko pushed higher up as proper wing backs and get ndiaye in the centre of the pitch behind the striker - hopefully it won’t take Moyes too long to realise this. Lindstrom behind the striker would be interesting to.

Be nice to have other options back from injury, and with a few signings I at least have some hope now.

Crowd were ok but quietened quickly, we need to do more and make Goodison shake for her last 9 league games.

Apart from Ashley young having a brain fart I thought we matched villa for most of the game and certainly after we conceded we were the better side

You sometimes need a bit of luck in these matches and we just didn’t get any

I agree, that game for me was night and day, we were trying to get up the pitch other than hoofing it, trying 1-2s to get down the wing, doucoure and dcl had very good chances. More time on the training ground and a few signings n we'll be ok just shot ourselves in the foot

Have to say, the corner routines were absolutely pitiful. Made Mings look like prime John Terry. The combination of not being able to miss him and players not being able to win a header was shocking.

The intent to score and try and win the game was there, which is a vast improvement. Players got in each other s way and we looked disjointed, which will improve with coaching. However our basic ball control is pretty terrible and that is purely down to lack of ability and that can't be coached. Overall it gave me hope for the home games against bottom half clubs, but we need a modern day Kevin Campbell to come in and help us in front of goal.
