Everton Agree Fee With Man Utd For Lukaku

He stayed here four seasons and gave us a ton of goals...and he fetches in for the club almost 3 times as much as was spent out for him.

Please can we have another ten arrogant bells like this in the next few seasons.

You act like it's a punishment to play for us...he was rewarded with four years of wages and a lifestyle that most of us can only dream of.
Chelsea didn't believe in him, no other top club was willing to put their faith in him, we did.
A little bit of class and respect would have been nice.

I'm sure no-one was gonna match our valuation of him especially with him gobbing off that he was never gonna sign the new contract and playing for us was no longer gonna be an option. That just encouraged the low offers. Yes we could of held out and hopefully someone might have paid what we wanted, but then again they may not have.
We could have then kept him for another season and then have sold him for less next summer. The problem with all this speculation is without a time machine no one will know what would have happened. He could have downed tools next season (however unlikely) and cost us in that way.
I just don't understand the opinion of this being a total disaster and we've been mugged off without knowing what's gonna happen in the future. Try giving it till the end of the season and then maybe crow ' I told u so' to your hearts content.
You get a chance of a generation to cash in on a player like Lukaku. You know that it has to be timed to perfection for a sale at just the right time with a buyer in place and a deal cut that makes all parties very happy. I dont see that here. I see a club like United who have just hit the jackpot for a reasonable fee by their standards these days and they'll only need to pay more if they are highly successful.

We get a lot less upfront than most people were expecting and we'll see that clearly in the next month or so when this market goes insane and figures approaching the Lukaku one will be agreed for players with less talent.

I consider this near enough a mugging, tbh.

Disagree. Last summer was a mess, no doubt. But from the links (if true) we tried for a lot of top players, but couldn't land them (likely due to no CL/ not willing or able to pay the big bucks wages).

January is a difficult window and think we did ok with Morgan (great player for me) and lookman (jury still out, but could defo come good).

Our ambition will be for all to see, with what we do with the Rom money. If we don't replace well, I'll be the first moaning about lack of ambition from the board.

The prem was awash in new money and driving the prices up of players who weren't worth it. Last summer was fine (thank you Spurs) and we were smart to mostly sit it out. Now that the rest of the prem blew their TV monies I think that's why we are finding deals/transfers easier to come by this summer.

Class and respect, what like his manager advising him he'd be a failure if he stayed here?

... and, not for the first time, you're completely on your own there Dave.

I never really cared mate.

It was tedious, but he was always honest - his press conference when we signed him he spoke of Everton being his next step.

He signed (could have went elsewhere after his loan) and scored loads of goals - more than anyone else in my life time.

He's a bit of a tit, and I reckon the dressing room won't miss him.

He deserves his chance in the Champions League.

We go on, but it's a shame we have a tendency to turn any good player who leaves for a top club a judas.

Thing is, I'm convinced if Lukaku wanted to stay - Koeman/Moshiri would have turned down £150m for him.

You talk a lot of sense here mate. I think with Rom our improvement has probably arrived a summer too late. For Lukaku it is a job and a career, he's an ambitious lad, who used us to get on in his career, and we used him to make ballpark 60 million profit and get a lot of goals. Both sides should have been clear what the arrangement was. We will have to get used to more of this as we continue to improve, players, managers, agents, sponsors, corporate, affiliates etc using us for a period it's convenient to them, the situation changing then they are gone.

Lukaku has given us 4 good years. It won't be easy to replace his goals though I think we will spread them round better. I also think in some ways he was a problem (a nice problem to have) in that he doesn't really fit how the manager wanted to play. If we can add in a Giroud & Rooney to Sandro and get 1 more of say Dembele/Hernandez/Berardi I think we come out of it much stronger.

I'm a Spurs fan who knows how that feels. For instance if it were down to me I wouldn't have invited Berbatov to the WHL ceremony. Bitter definitely. I didn't have a problem with him going to Utd. They were miles ahead of us then. But the manner tainted his image. At least Lukaku hasn't gone on strike.

That said you're always better off having people who want to play for the shirt and defend the badge rather than having one guy dictate the shots.

I had to read your post 4 or 5 times to convince myself that I understood you correctly. Is this some kind of comedy character?
