Everton Agree Fee With Man Utd For Lukaku

I think it's slightly unfair to say he didn't want to be here.

My take on it is that he was fairly content to be here, but ultimately wanted to play in the Champions League and win trophies. He's been here for 4 years and we haven't really got close to either of those things so he's decided to move on. The truth is, most of our other players would be exactly the same if they were as good as he is. For all Joe from Aigburth complains about his first touch, two of the biggest clubs in the world - managed by 2 of the best around - are seemingly entering into a bidding war for him. All those who said he was kidding himself and he wasn't as good as he thought are being proved wrong. He knew the interest was there and he wanted to take advantage of it. Make no mistake, if Chelsea and United had wanted Sandro he'd have gone there too. If Arsenal wanted to keep Giroud he's be staying there not moving, and Rooney loved playing for us so much that he left at 18 and is only considering coming back on the basis that he keeps his massive wage and is no longer wanted by his current club.

I couldn't give a toss if a player loves the club in all honesty, if it gets us winning trophies and playing in the CL I'd happily take a bunch of mercenaries.
Where in my post have I said he didn't want to be here?. I said that he doesn't want to be here. In this scenario there is a massive difference between past and present tense. He clearly doesn't want to be here otherwise he would have signed a new contract and wouldn't have said all those things in the press since the end of the season.

Neither was my post judgmental of Lukaku for wanting to leave. Nor Stones or Barkley for that matter. I was simply stating my view that if players don't want to stay and play for the club, we should be looking to get the best price possible for them, reinvest in new players, and move on.

FWIW I fully agree with you on the type of player we will HAVE to buy if we are to become the elite club we all want to be. A player who lacks ambition is unlikely, in my view, to be able to take us on to the next level. Until we move up to that level and are regularly winning trophies and competing in the Champions league, we're just going tp have to cope with this type of scenario.

Baffled why anyone is bloody panicking about this.

We all knew he was off.

The club knew he was off.

We've made signings to prepare for this and we will continue to do so.

We'll play in a different way.

I don't know if many are panicking, but being calm and super positive about all the goings on this summer is a hell of a lot easier when you rate and trust the manager.

I think he has a bang average track record and I see no guarantees that all this activity and squad changes will be managed well. He might play a blinder, but I don't see reasons for people to be so confident in that.

Likewise, I find it very reasonable for people to not trust the club to adequately replace whatever major outgoings we have this summer whether its both Rom and Ross or just one of them.

There are no guarantees of success for any of the players bought. Young keepers often fail to live up to their promise, new signings from the Dutch league often fall short and new signings from abroad in general often fail to click in their first season.

Its not as black and white as many posters would like to make it really. I think people should be way more accepting of the sceptical views of all but the most extreme panic merchants. This is Everton ffs

I certainly hope it all comes off and we are bosser than boss, but have no idea what sort of Everton we will see come the new season. History tells us that lots of the fans getting super excited right now will not be long turning on the club, manager, players and other fans if we are not looking so good (which is highly possible given the turnover in the squad).

Basically, the fence is a very comfortable place. Calm down people.

In Holland.

In his last season at Rangers Barry Ferguson got about 20 goals, I think he scored a total of 5 in 4 seasons in the PL.

I'm not knocking Klaassen, I've seen very little of him and he might be a goal machine still, but I think he might find it a lot harder in his first season over here and wouldn't assume he will get on the scoresheet regularly.

Yeh clearly there's caveats.

But Klaassen has scored plenty of goals during the last few years - both domestically and in Europe.

He's just that type of player. Has the knack of finding space in and around the area having run from deep.

Won't be 75 it'll be to get other teams to bid. Genuinely not arsed me, boss goalscorer and the best striker I've seen at us but his attitude stinks. And well be more of a squad than a one man team next year when he goes.

Hope Koeman and Walsh have someone picked out that can get us close to 20 a season. (Neither Giroud or Rooney are that player)

Lukaku's goals will be missed but his first touch and big mouth won't be.
Who then mate? Going to have to be a gamble because if they're better than Rooney or Giroud they're going to already be playing for the Top 4 in all likelihood.

It is going to be tough. Lukaku had dominated the Belgian league as a youngster before his Chelsea and West Brom moves. He scored 17 goals for West Brom at 18/19, any players of that quality and age available right now?

I'm not saying Koeman is the best thing since sliced bread, but bang average? I think that's harsh mate. Very harsh.

And yes, there's caveats to all our signings. And there's no guarantee we'll be boss.

But Lukaku - and Ross and all of the others for that matter - haven't brought us any success. Let's just wait and see but there's much more reason to be positive than negative.
