If a player has never played at a higher level than the conference or the scottish championship or the welsh premier league and we spend 40 million on them, than that's too much money.

You don't need to have seen them play to know that.

Big fees go to players who have proved themselves at the top level, those who haven't yet, you're only buying potential and cost less. What club a player is coming from is sometimes all you need to know to know if it's a good deal or not (which is completely different to whether they're a good player).

We've made a big mistake in buying all those players early then. We should have delayed our bids until after they'd injured themselves in training.
