I dont and never have. Poor defensivley. Said it for years.

Would that others were similarly predisposed to keeping an open mind.

We haven’t really addressed our centre forward position since Lukaku left, but as we know it is the hardest position to fill within any team. Tosun doesn’t look like he’s capable and DCL isn’t ready to lead the line. However I have every confidence in Brands and Silva addressing this, if not in the next window but certainly by next summer.

Well, we can use whatever terminology you like, but none of it masks the fact that we are now forced to play Richarlison in an out and out attacking role that hardly suits him - a non-specialist to fulfil the tasks of that position - we also lose a potent threat out wide left where he should be.

Forced to? I'm not entirely sure without going back and looking but we haven't seemed incapable of scoring with him out wide on the left and either DCL or Tosun up front.

Silva has chose to play him down the middle but is that not possibly because he thinks there's a very good striker in there and would like to explore that option rather than a forced move born of desperation with his attacking options?

Could it even be an attempt to find a role for both Richarlison and Bernard in the starting XI? Silva wouldn't be the first manager trying to shoehorn players into a side to the ultimate detriment of both the player and the team.

I get that, we lacked quality in there but we had a lot of CMs, I would have been willing to go until at least January with what we had if we had to but obviously I’m happy we got Gomes. If he keeps going like he has then he’ll be invaluable to us in no time.
But did we have the CMs to play like Silva wants? I was not sure that any of our CMs from last season were up for it - I am pleasantly surprised by Keane stepping up to the challenge, especially after the first few games when we were at sixes and sevens defensively.

The most crucial position on the pitch should have been prioritised in the summer just gone.

Totally disagree with that sentiment.

The most crucial positions which were a priority last summer were CD and LB and an injection of pace. I would prefer to wait and get the RIGHT striker than end up with another Sandro situation (still can't believe the wage he is on).

Tosun did pretty well at the end of last year and we have only recently shelled out £20mil for him. He's nowhere near the same bracket as the deadwood that had to be shifted elsewhere in the team. He started this season poorly but he also had to play in teams weakened by injury and suspension. His last two starts were with DCL on the left wing and a Davies, Schneiderlin midfield two behind him - who's to say he that once he comes back into a team with Bernard, Gomes etc that he won't be banging them in with better service? It's far too early to write him off now, nevermind if we had done so before the season had even started!

It also just so happens that in the game Silva did decide to change it and go with Richy down the middle, from that point onwards we won 3 in a row - so why is it such a disaster if Richarlson plays down the middle if we are winning games anyway? Even against United when we lost, Richarlson won the pen and put Bernard and Coleman in on goal which is enough of an influence to have changed the result if his team mates had put the chances away.

@davek why all the hate for Brands ?.

In the short time he`s been here, he`s done more to sort things out, than all of the previous clowns put together.
What makes you think I hate him?

There's a world of difference between hating him and refusing to accept he's done a grrat job. He's done an ok(ish) job so far and we've every right to point to the calamity upfront to criticise him.

Portraying that as me "hating' him is just a way of denying the right to criticise him.

No. It's because Silva knows DCL and Tosun are cabbages.

Of course. The only one you could say so far unreservedly.

Not in my opinion, baines was playing really well the start of the season. Digne had played well, but any better than baines did? I'd have much preferred US to get a cheap backup for baines and focus more on a striker. Wasted a bit of time on that which could have been put to better use.

Wait until early January at most. We are haemorrhaging points by having a second season on the run with a pop gun attack.

You are the ONLY one on here criticising him Dave, which is of no surprise at all.
