Everton confirm rejecting 28M for both Fellaini and baines

If we've honest to god sold Fellaini for £20m basic, and only rising to a maximum of £23-24m someone needs fkn shooting.

Man Utd are so desperate for a big money signing, we should have absolutely bent them over on the price.

Nobody else really seems to want him. You can't force United to pay massively over the odds when they're the only ones looking to really buy him and we need the money to fund transfers.

This.

Best to get him out now and have more time to get players in than leave it until the last day for an extra 1 or 2 £m.

We don't NEED the money at all. Our squad is stronger than it was last season, we're not in vital, desperate need of transfers. And competition for his signature isn't the only way of forcing Utd to pay more. We know how much they NEED to sign someone big (both for the fans and the team itself). We should have simply said: Here's our price, pay it or **** off.

Its all relative though fella. If Martinez wants certain players and he knows how much it will cost to get them and that figure is circa 20-24m and he can only spend that amount by selling players, then IF Man United's offer hits that spot with no other takers for Fellaini its best to sell. Martinez may not feel Fellaini is either a.arsed about playing for Everton or b.not what he wants in the new look Everton style then he has no choice if he wants to get the personnel in or who he feels is better suited to take us forward with our new tactics.

I'd only be pissed if Martinez does not have replacements lined up already if/when the Fellaini deal is struck.

Perhaps Martinez feels that he could find a player for cheaper who would do as good as or a better role than Fellaini in the formation he wants us to play.

That player seems to be McCarthy.

If we get basically £10m + McCarthy for Fellaini I'll be fairly happy.

So we had a clause in his contract of 23 million, and now we are selling him for 20 million?

Hmm that makes sense. Daniel Levy will be calling Kenwright for tips I think after this one.

We need it to fund new transfers.
Which we don't desperately need as a matter of urgency. We got through last season ok, and our squad is stronger now than it was then.

On a side note, if we've sold Fellaini for £20m and go and spend £15m of that on James McCarthy, I'm gonna go and jump off something high :P

Or we could you know.... not sell him. He's not going to kick up a massive fuss when he's got a very competitive Belgian midfield to secure his place in for the world cup.

As I said, maybe Martinez feels he can use the funds better elsewhere.

We desperately need a CM regardless of Fellaini going, and right now we have no money to get one.
