Wow - some very strange and revealing remarks in there. I'm not sure I want to hear Martinez saying he's in the back seat on all this. It makes my stomach turn hearing that the ginger Judas and Kenwright are carving this up between them.

Reading between the lines it sounds like RM is pissed off with all this politics. United are absolute ****s on stuff like this and Moyes is fitting right in like the prick he is.

Reading that we have no chance of keeping these two now.

After reading that I can't see either staying now

Horrendous.

The Guardian do things well consistently. Fact based reporting instead of ridiculous sensationalism. They're human affairs stuff are too far left-leaning obviously but they're very good with sport.

The Daily Mail, The Sun and The Mirror are consistently terrible. Very surprised at just how bad the Independent have been though as they're usually not too shabby.

I agree, although the Mirror does have a long history of acting as Utd's 'go-to' tabloid for stories and for leaking stuff.

We've had a settled team for a long time under Moyes but that might not necessarily be the best way of doing things. Arsenal regularly sell on their best players each year and always reach the group stages of the CL. They're in a healthy position financially. We don't have a benefactor, so why not follow the example of our closest rivals?

I'd be happy to follow the example if we had 100m+ per year to spend on wages. Part of the reason they can afford to sell those players (Arsenal especially) is they spend an absolute fortune on wages to lock up some of the best young talent around. We simply don't have the talent right now (despite an improving academy) to replace those players.

As any Arsenal fan will tell you ... they don't buy players (an exaggeration but they do turn a profit most years). They are sustaining themselves not by sell to buy but sell and replace with youth. We simply cannot afford the wages they pay so we can't follow their model.

Tbh if they offer 45m AND Martinez gets to see 35/40m I'll drive them to old Trafford myself.

Could do some serious damage with that cash.

But until then I want them to stay... but an offer too good to refuse in our situation could benefit us..

Another day, a whole lot of 'meeja talk', no bid from United.

They're clearly leaving it to the last day, so I really hope that for once we just tell them 'no, you've left it too late'.

Sooner or later we've got to draw a line in the sand and take a stand against other clubs trying to bully us like this.

If we do it this time, they'll be shocked... the media will be shocked... maybe the perception that we're pushovers might finally change for once.

BK has an opportunity to make a massive statement either way here IMO. Accept the late bid which seems to be on the way and prove that Moyes was correct in saying that he knew how Everton worked or actually for once just say no, too late, you have messed us about instead of just coughing up correct value 8 weeks ago when we could have done something about it. The media would have a fit but from now on everyone would actually think blimey, they are not such a push over after all. Keep them both. Promise them to let them move easily next year. But not this window to this manager at that club for that price. Let robby do some charm offensive on them. What are they going to do? Play rubbish in World Cup year?

If it's true that we've told Utd we want £50m for the pair, at least it's a vague step in the right direction. I'd rather not sell either of them, but at least stating that value means Utd basically have to offer at least £45m (especially since we seem to have rejected £36-38m), which at least gives us some room to work in terms of getting in replacements.

I'd miss Baines so much it'd physically hurt though. Arguably the first world class player we've had since Southall.

You're right. It sounds like Martinez has no say in whether they stay or go and it's just down to money. It would seem too that £40m could be the magic number.

£45m or end the discussions. Give Martinez £50m to spend (Yes Kenwright that means going into the TV money like other clubs) and let him put his own stamp on the team.

I wouldn't be so sure. My interpretation of it all isn't that negative. In fact, its the same as it always been - we'll keep Baines, but we might lose Fellaini.

Not for me. Sorry to say it but I think he's going.

Martínez reiterated that the England international Baines had not asked to be allowed to rejoin Moyes at Old Trafford. "No, no," he said. "But whatever the players say in a different situation or environment could change.

That's wriggle room. I dont think he wants Baines gone. but knows the likelihood of Moyes, Kenwright and the players cooking something up behind his back.

I feel sorry for hm, tbh.

I bet he just wishes now he had shut of the pair of them asap to spend the proceeds on replacements.

Can't see it being £40m if we've leaked that we've rejected £38m. We wouldn't do that, only to accept £2m more. Suspect £45m more likely, IF they go.
