Everton confirm rejecting 28M for both Fellaini and baines

We don't always see eye to eye, but I think it would be a very principled thing to do for Martinez to resign if they are sold at the last minute.
While I don't think Moyes and Kenwright have a conspiracy, I do feel Moyes has a particularly unhealthy influence over Kenwright. I also think he would use that influence. I think Kenwright underneath it all the front, is quite a weak man. He takes the safe option. At times he accommodates others as opposed to himself/his club. It many ways an admirable trait, but not for a chairman. I think Moyes feels if he exerts enough pressure Kenwright will buckle.

I'd've agreed with you, IF Moyes had gone about this the right way. But the way he and Utd have handled this pursuit, I can't see any outcome other than it having irrevocably destroyed Kenwright's relationship with Moyes. So many stories have come out saying how hurt and angry Kenwright is, and that he feels betrayed by Moyes. Not saying we won't sell, but actually don't think Kenwright will make it easy for Utd.

Marouane Fellaini has told Roberto Martinez that he wants to leave Everton.
The move comes as Manchester United upped their bid for the Belgian midfielder — and left back Leighton Baines — to £36million.
The 25-year-old Belgian international has not handed in an official transfer request but has indicated verbally that he would like to go.

Exit: Marouane Fellaini has told Everton boss Roberto mArtinez he wants to leave

Late winner: Fellaini scored in extra-time as Everton beat Stevenage 2-1 in the Capital One Cup
Everton have already rejected an offer of £26 million from their former manager, David Moyes. But United’s new offer cranks up the pressure on the Merseyside club with three days until the transfer window closes.
Manager Martinez, who faces losing two of his top players since arriving from Wigan in June, admitted the club are making contingency plans if Fellaini and Baines go.
He said: ‘The way you work in the transfer market is to always think about the unthinkable. You always have to work in a way which means that if the worst was to happen, and you picked up one or two injuries, you need to replace players.

Left out: Baines was a substitute against Stevenage

Double bid: Manchester United upped their bid for Fellaini and Leighton Baines to £36m
'That’s the norm so you always have to work like that.
‘I have told the chairman (Bill Kenwright) I don’t want to know anything that’s going on (with United). I only want to know the final news. I have had enough of “he said this, he said this."

25m for fellaini and 20m for baines. Kenwright needs to start calling the shots to moyes, no more being nice and giving in!!!

I would have completely dismissed that idea but I have to say I was shocked when I read this particular quote from Martinez in that Guardian article: "I have had enough of 'he said this, he said that'. This is a really sensitive situation because you're talking of a chairman and previous manager [Moyes] who had a relationship over 11 years. A lot of things have been said in public and I don't want to be part of that. I'm out of it. But I have never had any instruction that anything has changed."

To me that says Martinez wants to be left out of the conversations but wants to be kept in the loop. Not "My chairman is deliberately undermining me with the former Everton manager" like some alarmists here make out.

Wont go that way though, unfortunately.
If you have named a price why talk to them?! Talk when they meet it, simple.

Hypothetically, because by naming a price of £50m, while we might not get that, it forces them closer to that figure with any further bid. And the closer Utd get to the deadline, the more desperate they get to make a big money "statement" signing.

We actually pretty much hold all the cards here, so long as we play them right.

I thought the report said £36m. They've already come up £8m. I don't think they'll want to lose the deal for the sake of a few more million but, if they think they're being taken for a ride they might just pull the plug.

If they did go close to the deadline we can cover Baines with Oviedo but we'd struggle to replace Fellaini. Maybe they'll throw in a loan (Anderson, Nani or Hernandez) to sweeten the deal and because we won't have time to arrange our own replacements.

We're in the driving seat because both players are well in contract and seem fairly happy to stay at the club. £40m would be of enormous benefit to the club and really set us up for seasons to come. It's hard to see how we could turn that sort of money down.

with a driver without a licence. I'm not in the business of scaremongering but I've got a horrible feeling we'll accept the deal on deadline day and get nobody coming in. I'm having flashbacks to that Arteta transfer window already.

You could easily look at it and see more of the Lescott deal though. Depends on perspective.

It's rubbish too, as all the other papers have scooped them with the story on the £36m/£38m joint bid being turned down.

And besides, it really doesn't matter if either player want to leave. We're in charge, not them. They haven't even put transfer requests in. And even if they did - so what?

It's World Cup year and they're both playing for a World Cup squad place. They're hardly going to sulk or kick off.

Ironically, both United and LFC showed with Rooney and Suarez what to do.

You aint wrong there pal, none of this chatting on the phone every week rubbish, moyes has gone an tarnished his own legacy with his insulting offers, no more being all pally.

Sounds like martinez a bit pissef off with his comments. ****in moyes has unsettled the pair of them. Remember him when this happened to lescott!!!! Ginger prick
