Off one of the bbc sport reporters twitter feed...

Been to see DM at #MUFC he's not sure whether he'll get players in. "I hope we do a little bit of business, but I couldn't guarantee that."

Looks like nothing agreed yet lads which is good news

Just waiting for the standard "We'll go with what we've got" with 10 minutes to go in the Window.

I'm sorry, but Carrick has been brilliant for the past two years. Any United fan who says otherwise hasn't got a clue.

I'm not sure about that. IMO he's good in games when United dominate possession as his main attribute is his ball retention. For United I guess this covers a lot of league games.

But in the bigger games when United don't enjoy as much possession or in games when the opposition has a very mobile midfield, he gets lost because he isn't quick enough to get in to position, and often ends up looking like a passenger.

Funny following uniteds transfer business this Summer, we always thought it was the lack of finance that meant all of our dealings were done so late and why we had 'phoney' bids for players we'd never get. But United a club who in the past have tended to do their business before Ferguson goes on holiday in June, have publicly struggled as they go from one failed target to the next. I guess they'll have the last laugh if they do get Felli or Baines but hopefully Roberto is a bit more decisive in replacing them.

Because you have Moyes as your manager now, not Alex Ferguson. Sheer strength of will from the manager got you that title last year.

As you should know, to be a title winning side you need multiple ways to break down teams and attack. Nine out of ten games will not require you to have a left back who doesn't know how to attack. That's the difference between Baines and Evra - 60 minutes into a game and it's 0-0, you'll have a quality player who'll bust a gut to get the overlap and send in a deadly ball from the byline for van Persie to smash home.

What I'm getting annoyed by is the suggestion that we're overrating our players, rather than judging them on their merits. We slate our own if they're complete bollock awful, even those who are completely our own like Osman and Hibbert. We don't just say "YER EVRY EVERTONN PLAYA IS BOSS LAD".

Oh come on. "Sheer strength of will" doesn't win you the league by 11 points, you do need good players as well.

They should've won the previous year as well really, but they had a fairly major collapse, losing to wigan, that masively weird performance at the Etihad and nani missing a sitter when they were 4-2 ahead against us.

Anyone who thinks there's even a chance they'll finish outside the top 4 is quite frankly mental. Even if spurs keep Bale they've bought too many players for it to work this season, City are also something of a shambles and Pellegrini will show up himself and all his pseudo 'worldly' supporters, Chelsea have an ageing squad who will struggle come the end of the season, they also have a collection of strikers who appear to have lost their goalscoring touch.

United have a good a chance as anyone of winning the league. Feel free to vault this in 9 months time.

The more i think about it the more £40m seems like a very fair price. YEs they're important but surely they can be replaced, Baines is getting on and will need to be replaced in four or five seasons anyway.

AS much as i like Fellaini he does have his limitations (slow, not a great passer, bit clumsy), we should be able to get 3 to 5 very players in for that amount.

Ince, Mcmanaman, McCarthy and Ba on loan would be nice.

I didn't say they didn't have good players - I'm saying they don't have loads of individual world class players, which is true. They have three in fact.

Someone said it well earlier - the sum is better than the individual parts. They're vastly overrating the likes of Rafael and Carrick as players.

And I don't think you can underestimate the impact of Ferguson last year. You could see the anger earlier in the year; there was simply no way he was going to tolerate going out without a title win that year. He was lucky Chelsea were in disarray and Man City stuck with that clown Mancini as long as they did.

I think they'll finish 3rd. Saying Chelsea have an ageing squad is ridiculous, I suggest you look at it properly!

Cech, Lampard, Cole, Terry, Essien, Eto'o are all well over 30. He doesn't like Mata, Oscar is a touch overrated, Hazard's influence waned after his explosive start, Cahill isn't very good, lots of others are untested.

Perhaps Fergie was angry, perhaps he wouldnt have tolerated no title win that year, but if he was managing Liverpool instead of united he'd have got angrier and would've had to have found a way to tolerate the no title win...

Some fella from SSN is saying that United are "edging closer" to a deal for Fellaini. I have absolutely no idea what that means.

It means they don't have any new information of any sort, don't want to sound completely out of the loop, and need to say something to keep the situation in the open. So they use a wishy-washy nothing statement such as this* to make it sound like something is happening.

*See also, depending on which story they're talking about: 'Bid imminent', 'Rumoured/Believed to be interested', 'Mulling over an increased offer' etc etc.

Why is this all so complex? Why can't we say £50m for both, x amount for Fellaini alone and x amount for Baines alone - we will NOT accept any different. Why doesn't that happen?
