Everton confirm rejecting 28M for both Fellaini and baines

If it is just the release clause amount it really angers me. To start with, united could have done this weeks ago without destabilising our start to the season (though I'm sure that's not something our former manager is too disappointed about).

Secondly, the noises coming out of the club were anyone would have to pay big once the clause expired. They haven't. That tells me that either a) fellaini really wanted to go and we're doing right by the player as Moyes suggested. in which case that's essentially a transfer request, but not so he still gets this ridiculous 'loyalty bonus' taking away from our transfer funds further.

Or b) all this talk of 'we don't need to sell' is utter rubbish, as these are not the actions of a club who do not need to sell.

This shouldn't have dragged on to now, it's been talked about all summer and its happening on deadline day. We've known he was going the whole time, yet here we are as usual.

This time though, the replacements are already lined up. Players come and go but Everton remains. Personally I'd sooner see a player who is happy to beat the club, especially one who will slot right into Bob's style of play. You can't really blame both Fellaini and Baines - especially Baines, given his age - wanting to play Champions League football. Good luck to them in the CL I say, but not in the PL

No mate we were nothing in the premier league before him. How anyone can look at the squad and league position when he came in and the squad and league position he left with and claim that no progress had been made is beyong me. God forbid Martinez had arrived in 2002 and tried to get that motley crew playing tippy tappy. martinez has only got half a shot at being successful here because of the standard of the squad Moyes left behind. Rebuilding Everton from what we were in 2002 was going to be a long painful job for whoever did it. We should just be glad Moyes stuck at it rathe than a succession of quick fix Di Canio type managers who woul be in for a season or two blow a load of money and leave us in the same place. We could be in excatly the same position as we were back then but 11 years would have passed. Instead our new manager has a chance to have a crack at European football. Yeah a trophy would have been nice but only a deluded fool is not able to see the work Moyes did for us. They might perceive that it didn't go far enough for their high standards, but anyone who thinks we're worse off now than before Moyes came in needs to cast a glance at some of the league tables from 1998-2002.

I didn't say progress hadn't been made. I said it wasn't success, and going from bottom of the table to top half of the table is still nowhere. The minute we start thinking it is 'somewhere' is the minute we've died as a club.

The huge PR job carried out on managing our standards and expectations (wth Moyes at the helm of that, btw) has resulted in many thinking that finishing within touching distance of Europe is a massive achievement. It isn't. 11 years he was here and the record books wont be arsed with 7th place finishes or CL qualifying game defeats, they'll show that it was another barren period in the club's history, yes with mitigating circumstances, but still marked by failure.

History will judge Moues more soberly than his apostles do right now, you can be sure of that.

So if I'm reading this right, Moyes wants to derail us, so he is going to wait until the 11th hr to bid on Fellaini, knowing full well what Kenwright's sell price is.

Moyes gets Fellaini, gives Roberto no time to find a replacement, which allows Bill to bank the money till January.

Don't believe it.

And I don't believe the replacements are not ready and waiting

Dont believe it? Open your eyes then, because it's happening. Or maybe we've sold and bought and we've all missed it?

This is like selling rooney all over again, there just isnt enough time for us to find suitable replacements other than an over priced mccarthy. We cant score goals yet we're releasing our two most attacking players, in goals and assists. Unless martinez can pull a rabbit out of the hat l'm very concerned. A couple more bad results and we'll be hearing everton and that dreaded word in the same sentence.

Well, just remember what happened the season we sold Rooney. There's no telling what's going to happen.

What a top quality riposte, well played Dave.

True but very different circumstances, even clubs like norwich and southampton have spent a vast amount of money.

We bought Marcus Bent for peanuts that season and still finished 4th.

Plenty of clubs have outspent us and not matched our achievements over the past decade. I'm not worried about Norwich or Southampton.

Let's wait until Tuesday morning. We'll all know more then.

I said he made progress, and I agree with you about the downgrading of expectation. I just hope you apply the same standard of expectation under Martinez' stewardship, because there already seems to be an awful lot of excuses being attached to everything he does.

He needs time and he isn't being backed like other managers are so he is at a disadvantage. I'm sorry to be downcast but it just looks a bit bleak at the moment imo.
