If he was as good as we all think he is there would be more than Utd after him, There's hardly a raft of clubs fighting over his signature is there

I'd more or less agree that the market sets the correct price, but United and Arsenal have hardly proven competent during the current window. But the market for EPL MF isn't like picking tomatoes at the supermarket. Instead it's more like choosing a classic sports car--you've got a limited selection, each one is different, and each seller has their own preference. And then, sometimes you've got a guy down the street that owns 5 Alfa Romeos already and is still looking for a bargain (Spurs).

It's a head-scratcher, all of it, and "true value" is a bit of a misnomer.

He does not perform well enough consistently to be valued so highly

Clubs from France,Germany,Spain or even Russia would be fighting over him if he was that good

Fellaini is not a 30m+ player

Part of that may be down to him playing as an Attacking Mid/Centre Forward for the best part of last season.

His best position is as a DM.

Come on mate clubs scout players for years, Also he plays DM for Belgium

Truth of the matter is we hype him up to be something he's not, He is a very good player but he is not world class, If he was there would be alot of clubs after him, Remember a few weeks ago any team could have come in with a 23m bid and snapped him up

Have they finally got the message?

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/423542/Manchester-United-interested-in-Southampton-s-Luke-Shaw-as-Leighton-Baines-alternative?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+daily-express-football-news+%28Daily+Express+%3A%3A+Football+Feed%29

MANCHESTER UNITED have enquired over the availability of Southampton left-back Luke Shaw as they draw up a list of potential alternatives to Everton’s Leighton Baines.
The highly-rated Shaw, 18, is regarded as one of England’s best prospects, and United manager David Moyes has checked on him after facing up to the prospect of missing out on Baines.

Shaw signed a five-season contract at Southampton in the summer and starred in the opening-weekend victory over West Brom to underline his importance to the Saints, who do not need to sell.

But the teenager, who is rated at about £10million, has come under renewed scrutiny by United in the past few days after a joint £28m bid – rising to £30m – for Baines, and his club-mate Marouane Fellaini, was dismissed as “derisory and insulting” by the Goodison Park club.

United are expected to increase their offer to about £35m over the coming days and are unlikely to split the bid and just go for one or the other.

Yet there seems little chance of Everton caving in even at that improved figure, with chairman Bill Kenwright having made keeping Baines, in particular, his priority.

Everton’s trenchant stance with United is partly motivated by their anger over how Moyes was, effectively, appointed behind their backs by Sir Alex Ferguson when still in charge at Goodison.

Former United chief executive David Gill apologised to Everton for the way Moyes was installed as Ferguson’s successor. But resentment still lingers.

There is also the fact that Everton believed they had an agreement with Gill’s replacement, Ed Woodward, that United would not bid again for Baines when a second offer of £12m was rebuffed. A first bid of £9m was immediately rejected.

Indeed, I don't think he's world class also. Unplayable on his day, but nevertheless he's one of the best players in his position in the league. And with some of the ridiculous transfer fees flying around lately, we'd be fools to accept anything below the 23 mil from the expired buy out clause.

I think that's pretty much the size of it. For me, it boils down to consistency. He's not at his unplayable best often enough to warrant an eye-watering fee.

From reading redcafe a lot of United fans are pissed at Ed Woodward (their CEO). He doesn't have a clue what he's doing is the common consensus
