Well, yes. Given that they're our rivals, half of the people I've known all my life have been fans and work colleagues!

You'd have to have a complete emotional detachment from the subject matter of football to be a Scouser and not be arsed about the local rivalry.

I have an emotional attachment to Everton.

I'd rather revel in our success than in their failures.

i'm arsed...i'm arsed to fook. but not arsed enough to not want us doing well to spite them somehow.

Why are those actions mutually exclusive? It's all about levels - 4th place for Everton is, for me, on a much lower level than that lot winning the title. But I wouldn't be arsed about them finishing 2nd, or winning the League Cup, or getting to the Champions League semi finals or whatever. But there's certain things that take precedence - pretty much a league title or Champions League win. I'd forego runners-up for Everton in those competitions if it meant that lot won them.

Wow...just wow.

Well, where does it stop? How about 5th? Would you happily see Liverpool win the league if it meant us finishing 6th? Or 10th? Where's the tolerance point?

I'd suspect a lot of people would forego a certain level of Everton success to prevent theirs if given the option; the only variable would be what success that is.

This thread makes me sad.

There was a time, admittedly some time ago, when we were truly boss and won things on a regular basis. The Reds were still our rivals back then and it was always great to see them lose / fail / whatever, but if they won something, we knew we'd win something else soon, which lessened the pain somewhat.

Now, I'm a wool, but I lived in city back in the 80's and there wasn't the same hatred ( for want of a better word ) of that lot as there is now. To be honest, there were bigger things on people's minds ( if anyone's old enough to remember the time of the riots you'll know what I mean ).

I'd much prefer Citeh or Chelski win the league but heh, if the other lot win it then I'll take some positives from it. They might have more cash than us but their finances are tiny compared to Citeh or Chelski. They have a manager ( annoying though the blert is ) who has a similar philosophy to Martinez. In terms of changing the way the team plays we're effectively one season behind them and we're lacking in the cash department, but it shows what can be done. The only real difference between the two teams is Suarez who they took a gamble on for ~20 million. All we need to move to the next level is a great manager ( tick ), a great squad ( tick ) and a bit of luck in buying someone who turns out to be worth much more than we thought at the time of signing, oh, and a bit of luck too.

I'm an Everton supporter mate...couldn't care less about them lot except on Derby day.

It'd be very strange if the situation occured where City scored the winner at GP. I'd never, ever cheer another side to score against us, BUT, it'd feel very strange

Then I simply have a different view to you my good fellow! :) Respect it, can understand it, but personally disagree.

I think your peer groups or the way you've been brought up etc. influence your thought process on this, so I'd never dismiss a view on it.
