I think most Blues telling sweet little lies when they say that they're not bothered if Liverpool succeed or not. We've all got Liverpudlian mates, we know we'd never here the end of it. But in the grand scheme of things, Spurs, United, Arsenal and Liverpool will all likely strengthen loads in the summer, which means that this season could well be our best chance to finish 4th for some time. So if someone offered me 4th place now, witht he condition that Liverpool won the league, quite frankly I'd take it in a heartbeat.

I don't think many if any people have said that.

Pretty much how I feel mate. It's the league title, it's the greatest accomplishment in football. Versus 4th place. Which gets you a qualifying round tie.
I'm not saying I'd ever forfeit silverware - but you don't get a trophy for 4th. Yo don't even get automatic Champs league, there's a qualifier between you and the £12m+ that awaits.

That would be the Champions League.

And you don't get a trophy for Liverpool not winning the league.

Of course I can understand this if you're lucky enough to have grown up and live in the great city. The success of your team is always measured by those around in relation to the success of the other city team. As 9 year old with little interest in football and lots in girls I sat down to watch the lineker vs rush fa cup final planning on supporting the winner. Brighton were a miserable team and I was pure glory hunting. By the end of the game although the reds had taken I had fallen for blues and didn't look back. I guess my point is my adoration of Everton is on a different level to my feelings of distaste for the reds.. But I don't have to live with them.

Because if was there for that match and City would score a last minute winner, I'd be devastated. In fact, I'll be fuming in front of the telly over here.

As would I? But i'd be lying a bit if said that wouldn't be tempered a little bit knowing the RS had lost the league because of it.

Um...it's our highest finish EVER in the Prem...I think it would be a massive achievement for the club...especially considering this is Boberto's first season in charge. Again...who gives two sh*ts what they do...sure, their fans are already insufferable, but who cares. I want this club to be successful...finishing 4th would be a massive step for us.
Fair enough mate. It would. I just feel queasy at the thought of that open-top bus rolling past not more than 300 yards from my house

So, hypothetically, if we needed to beat Citeh to get third, and bypass the qualifying round, but it meant Liverpool would win the league, would that change how you felt ?

If that happens then draw the curtains, put some ear plugs in or go and gob on Gerrard from a mates bedroom window.

Debatable, mate. Brian Clough was once quoted saying that if someone offered him the league title he'd happily go out of the European Cup.

Personally, I hold winning the league and Champions League on equal footing.

I bet clough said that before he won two big ears in a row

I'm not arsed what Clough said tbh. It's more of an achievement to win the Champions League than to win the Premier League. You don't have to get the better of the best sides in the world to win the latter.

Pretty much this really. Again, levels.

I cried myself to sleep the night they won the Champions League - Everton finishing in a half-decent position in the league meant very little in comparison.

Someone saying they'd hand Gerrard the cup if it meant 4th for us is quite frankly incomprehensible to me - I'd genuinely rather lob off my own hands than give him a cup with them - but I can understand the logic if Everton is 100% the focus.

But for me I'm not afraid to admit the local rivalry has a massive bearing on my overall emotions as a football fan. I wouldn't be quite the same Evertonian if I didn't care about the other lot. They're the other half of the circle to me and part of the ups and downs of the whole thing.

Can't get over people saying there's no debate
No, it shows that the majority of our fans aren't weird and care more about Everton progressing than Liverpool failing.
No it shows some people understand the possible negative effect of the hypothesis is greater than a possible one off sniff of the CL, nothing weird about that at all.
