This thread is so cringey.

It should be about us not them. If we get 4th place and qualify for the champions league with the riches and exposure it can bring it puts us in a different category- especially if we can qualify a couple of years on the bounce.

We should look after our own house not think about others despite who they are.

Can't believe this post. 'Brilliant for the city'. Just F.O. We got alot of this sentiment in 1977 when the RS were going into their first European Cup final - and look how 'brilliant' that has since proven to be.

Anything that's brilliant for them is a disaster for us. End of.
How is having two teams in the CL not good for the City?

I dont think so, Bungle.

Many can work out that even in the event we do pip Arsenal to 4th it isn't a silver bullet to slay our problems. Liverpool winning the title however could open the floodgates to a new era of utter gloom as we stand in the shadows of their future successes. That was on my mind when they won the CL in 2005. It didn't pan out that way because they wasted a kings ransom on rubbish players. But if they get a second bite at the cherry...

I'd stop them at all costs. No matter what the short term disadvantage to us.

I get your point mate, I honestly do, but I'd rather we had a crack at it and see where it led us than look at what they were doing. There's every chance us being in the CL could push us on and we could become a dominant force again, equally there's every chance that it won't, but the same applies to them.

I'd just rather fill my head with thoughts of what Everton are doing and how we're progressing, rather than eating myself up about what they're doing.

Did we waste a kings ransom that summer?? Can't remember really and far too lazy to look it up.

Neville was one signing that i do remember (He wasn't a flop)

I also want the best for our club -- which is way I'd willingly trade in the CL for them not to win the PL. Do we want to close the gap between us and them or not? If we do then we surely don't want them to win it. Think longer term than a couple of CL matches next season.
How do you see the gap being closed with no champions league football, have you read the figures clubs are getting for being in it next year?

I would too. But it's impossible to divorce the two as far as I'm concerned. We've had a great season and I'll be delighted for Martinez to smash through Moyes' record in the PL points-wise. But it'll be completely overshadowed by a Liverpool title win. I dont see any reason to deny that, tbh. It's only natural that people would see it that way and want it stopped.

It's a tougher one than people have made out, for sure. I think people are (even if not intentionally) doubtful that Martinez can have us challenging for CL places when Man Utd and Spurs aren't so shi e, so they want a CL place in the bag now, no matter what the cost. I'd say if Liverpool miss out on the title this year, they'll be battling us (and probably other teams) for a top 4 finish next season and beyond. This is their solitary chance.

Us, on the other hand, yes you could say we have been fortunate Spurs and Man Utd have underperformed given their resources, but that's got little to do with the majority of our points, and the fact is, we ARE going to get better and better under Martinez.

I'd still rather the 4th now, as it would be a fantastic achievement and might even encourage some investment (a club supposedly 'for sale' in the CL is very attractive), but people shouldn't laugh at what davek is saying...

They spent about £13M that summer. A drop in the ocean that would probably be repeated if we qualified this summer too.

It wouln't surprise me if that was the case, but considering Martinez has gone on record recently and said he still has the Fellaini money to spend, he has hopefully backed the board into releasing the cash.

The much needed striker won't come cheap.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm not surrounded by kopites all day but that's genuinely not how I'd feel, clearly I don't want them to win the league, I've already mentioned that, but I won't let their success detract from any pleasure I get from how Everton have done this season.

I will personally come and hug it out with you if they win the league dave, that should already make you feel better.

theyre gonna spend more than that lad. they spent about 30million quid on sh!te this summer, and because they dont get a game, apparently that spending doesnt exist and theyve done it all on a miniscule budget....

I'm sorry but I don't get this, If Liverpool win the league they deserve it, Sturrage and Suarez have scored 50 PL goals between them, they scored 4 or more goals 11 times this season.
I attually live in Liverpool and my wife and her family all support Liverpool. Have spoken to most of them they ALL want us to get 4th.
Given the choice personally I want us to get 4th.
I hope they win the league and we get 4th, brilliant for the City.
Why are we so bitter?

Wow.

The financila gain to us, be it 30 or 60 million is too much to turn down for another teams sake.
When you count in the other money from the new deal we are actually sitting pretty, and not required to sell players. Puts us in a great position to push on, especially with the money we've made from player sales. Can be reinvested into the squad now

Considering we're ranked 83rd in the UEFA Club coefficients we'll get a tough draw if we do finish 4th.
