We've got to beat City for our own interests and I think we will, but I can't go as far as to say I don't care about giving Liverpool the title. It'd be absolutely horrible to have them win the league.

I'll be in the Paddock screaming myself hoarse when we play City. I will be desperate for a win. I could never wish for a negative result for Everton.

If, however, we do happen to lose and it damages the RS... oh, well, you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs. ;)

None of Liverpool's results can (realistically, barring a massive collapse by either Chelsea or City) help Everton so there's nothing to address there. On the other hand they are starting to "look towards us" to help them!!! What a crazy viewpoint when they actually know that they can win out and take the title - perhaps even less than the 5 wins if they beat City.

I rather like the possibility that City draw at Liverpool (win would be better but let's not ask for too much) and draw at Goodison - which leaves the Reds clutching at straws and thinking we've helped them in some way. However if City win 5 and draw twice on Merseyside the title is all but theirs - barring an avalanche of goals for Liverpool in their other four games (one of which is against Chelsea).

City 5 wins 2 draws 87 pts (minimum GD +60) a minimum of +5 goals added to the GD from wins against Sunderland, West Brom, Villa and West Ham (h), Palace (a)

Liverpool 4 wins 1 draw 87 pts (minimum GD +54) - a minimum of +4 goals added to the GD with wins over Chelsea, Newcastle (h), Norwich and Palace (a)

City have scored more goals so this scenario requires Liverpool to net at least 11 goals in the plus column in those four games. Most would presume City to score loads in many of those 4 home games anyway.

that's what ive been trying to say in this thread. unless liverpool can beat city they're not winning the title

Everton 6 more wins = 81 pts
Liverpool lose to City, Chelsea = 35-74 - other results to follow.

The meltdown would be too delicious to even contemplate if, somehow, they finished behind us!!!!!

I see. Well, I can only speak from my point of view. I want 4th at all costs. If we have to beat citeh, to achieve that (which I believe is what the thread is about.) then I couldn't give a crap if we're doing somebody else a favour by beating them.

Besides, even if Liverpool don't win the league. If we don't finish top 4, they will still have had a much more 'successful' season than us. They'd still gloat, and you know it.

Obviously there is a qualitative difference between them gloating because they finished higher in the league than us and them winning the league. It is the Holy Grail for them. Confirmation that the last 25 years have been some kind of nightmarish abberation. They'll be absolutely intolerable. I wouldn't have us lose out on CL football to avoid it, but I'm not going to pretend that the possibility that our victory might push them over the line doesn't bother me.

The only problem I have here is the hyperbole used by some posters on here.

Do I want everton to finish 4th more than i want Liverpool not to win the league? Of course.

Do I not care at all about what they do at all? Of course not. It's ridiculous to pretend we're indifferent to them. Them winning the league would really bug me.

By the time we play city we will know who has the best chance to win league as Liverpool will be done with those 2 home games if Chelsea win every league game they finish above Liverpool no matter what we do against city or indeed what Liverpool do against city if we don't get 6 points from next 2 games we won't get CL anyway also as stated we may not even be in CL race by then, so for me if we get CL couldn't care less if we can't get CL by that stage then I won't actively want us to lose to city but it won't hurt as much as a normal defeat if it cost them the league and they'd be the same like when they let Chelsea walk all over them without putting up a fight a defeat that inbterms of points cost UTD that season for me Liverpool will win the league now as they have the momentum

One thing is for sure this has bought out some cracking ''super fans'' on twitter, who for the past 6 or 7 days have been making reference to this scenario trying to provoke fans, people are almost becoming Liverpool fans to prove how much of an evertonian they are

The thing is though, nobody has said they want them to win the league, and if they have, well, I'd expect to see the ban hammer.

It's out of our hands, and in their hands. So what we want, is irrelevant really.

Do I want them to win it? Christ no. But I'll tell you one thing, even if we can't get champ's league by the time we play citeh, I still want our lads to go for the win. Why? Well, for no other reason than it's called being professional. Those type of things can come back and bite you on the arse. Imagine we rolled over.... fast forward to May 2015; we need Liverpool to beat Arsenal for a place in the top 4. 12 months earlier, we rolled over to stop them winning the league.....

I've got US Liverpool fans asking me if I'd rather beat City and finish fourth with the Reds winning the title or lose and finish 5th and not win the title.

As if that's even a question. I care about us. Finishing fourth and getting CL money and buying the players we need could vault us into the title race next season. If we keep everyone and add 2 or 3 more.

TBF the team on TV did us a massive favour when they could have rested a whole lotta players in 98 days before a Euro final but at the same time that was then this is now it's only this season we will see this as they won't be up there again with more matches for them in upcoming seasons they have just had more good news with Hazard going off
