The question that need asking is why are the crowd the way they are,
Style of play,results, team selection.
I was sitting there bored and getting more irate as the first half went on.

What was there to get excited about ?
Watching us repeat the same mistakes over and over again .
The crowd will react when they see something to react to not before were not as daft as some like to think we are, all the bull about how good we are isn't reflected on the pitch and we can see right though the charade.
The team put the effort in and the results the crowd will get behind them.
Exactly. Look at the city cup game. We went toe to toe with the best side in the league (IMO anyway) and look how the crowd responded. We closed them down quickly, got in their faces and played some really good stuff second half. Fast forward to the opening half today when we were playing the 4th worst team in the league, there was no urgency whatsoever in that first half, commentators stated on numerous occasions how we werent pressing them and allowing them to play and is it any wonder the crowd gets restless and disgruntled. Martinez might have a point about the home crowd but was wrong to make it public. There is only going to be one winner in that regard and it isn't going to be him.

I think the home fans have been terrible, but at the end of the day the players and manager are the ones who are accountable. And while it's cliché, if someone pays £500+ a year to watch Everton, they are more than entitled to cheer, boo or unnecessarily [Poor language removed] of Barkley if they want.
Tbh think the comments are less that the fans aren't entitled to do it, personally feel of course they are, just that many feel it isn't particularly productive to do it especially for a young side.

I know the theory is that a good boo will let them know of the displeasure and it will give them a kick up the backside but tbh it either seems to have no effect or just makes the players more nervous.

I can already tell this is going to become a much bigger issue than it has to be, dividing the fans and providing much enjoyment for the rest of the fans in the premier league.

Commentators for every match I've watched/listened to so far have mentioned the atmosphere, usually something along the lines of "It doesn't take much these days" or "there's been grumblings of discontent". Once the media picks it up it'll be mentioned in every column, on every punditry show and it'll keep trickling back down to the fans and the players.

Agree - support is rubbish at the moment - even when we are winning - think it our psyche that we are just waiting for things to go wrong and let the frustration get the better of us. What kept us up in the90's was the support for the team . However bad they were we got behind the team and I think it was the Wimbledon game that awoke so many ( certainly put 10,000 or so on the gate the following season) realising how close we were to disaster. I hope we never need that kick up the backside again. Let's get back to SUPPORTING - away teams aren't soft they know to keep us quiet let the crowd turn after 20 mins and trot off with 1/3 points.
We are turning into kopites/ geordies. We don't want to slide into one of those teams like Boro, Leeds etc who slide out the league with a fan base that deserves it. The barracking of Stones/ Howard today was a disgrace, I mean ever Paul Gerrard, Claus Thomsen Carl Tiler, John O'Kane etc didn't get abuse.

Wrote this on the 4th Jan and stand by it. Players awful first half today but if we aren't careful we will be that mid table team that slides into a real relegation fight if we aren't careful.

Crowd has been more than patient with these players. Blaming the crowd for poor performances is lazy and if the players think that it tells you everything about their mentality. The reason we're better away from home is that our counterattacking game is decent in comparison to our incoherent possession game.

As you say over £500 - SIX MONTHS into the season and 3 home wins. That's some pretty expensive happy days we have had for our money. I am as patient as I can be but today was a disgrace- gave them the freedom of Goodison Park as if they were Real madrid and wonder why we go in at half time losing. Jesus

I think it's an absolute disgrace the way the fans rip into Ross.
Disgusting.
You may pay your money at the gate, but are you a customer or a supporter?

There are a few groans when he makes an awful decision with a pass, I'd hardly say it's ripping into him.
