Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

I guess I agree but it is also tough to do that job without support above you and the ability to overrule the manager. I don't think Brands ever got either.

I think it's more incompetence than intentional.

Agree and its a shame Brands didn't pipe up if that was case. His silence and acceptance that he could get bent over at every given opportunity by either the owner, manager or player means he was a massive part of the problem.

We can't say for sure he didn't. Moshiri is clearly wooed by big names.

I'd have liked him to have resigned at the first hint of him not being able to do the job he was brought in to do properly.

He's overseen an absolute disastrous period of our club. Walsh, Moshiri, Brands, Koeman, Allardyce, Silva, Benitez on top of the already massive failure Bill Kenwright.

These names will live long in the memory.

I think a lot of those under Moshiri have been put in a position because of Moshiri's incompetence where success was nearly unattainable.

The contract he arrived on was probably significantly larger than whatever he was on at PSV, so not many people would chose to walk away from millions each year as a point of principle. Then add in his more recent contract, which no doubt included a pay raise, plus the board seat, and clearly Brands was quite happy to work with one hand tied so long as the money was good.

If the budget is small then can someone please explain the logic of paying money for a player we can sign for free in about 5 months.

I'm no football or financial expert, but this doesn't feel like a difficult decision to me. Either sign him in June on a free or don't sign him at all. And that's even before considering the skill set of a player, it's just basic common sense.

I take it because G'bamin, Delph might be gone, Gomez is okay as a sub, plus there may be a question mark over Davies's fitness

If Doucoure or Allan get injured we may struggle for players in the middle of the park, terrible signing but coming is as a back up, which really isn't the way to do it. Normally you would bring in better players to replace, and the replaced player becomes a squad player, and the squad player is moved on?

Only plus I can see is that he is English and if we bring in for what they have touted (1 million) we would get our money back as long as the wages aren't silly

Guimarães - CM
Kulusevski - Winger

Then we are good to go and time should be given to the manager if he is able to sign quality young players. Kulusevski loan with obligation to buy in the summer. Guimarães on perm. Digne will go. Sell Holgate. Kenny, Delph, Tosun and Gbamin loan out or sell (anyone) to fund the deal.

Need another CB if we sell Holgate. Mina regularly injured. Leaves us with Keane, Godfrey and Branthwaite. And as much as I like Godfrey and Branthwaite, neither are ready to lead the back line and Keane is far from good enough.

I think we need 3 starting players, CB, DM, RW.

With 16 players binned off we would need 3 more squad players

This window and summer 6 in, 16 out.

Pretty sure they can’t do this unless they pay the £24m release clause first

As others mentioned, he cant play for more than 2 clubs a year so its a non starter unless its done in summer.

Seen a few links on Twitter - general comments are quite positive on here - what sort of midfielder is he??

Can sit as a DM playmaker or a bit more advanced as a CM.

Could be a playmaker type anchor or box to box. Brilliant passer, high energy, aggressive pressing machine.

Basically someone who could tick all the boxes of a defensive midfielder.

Ive wanted him for 2+ years.

I haven’t watched Forest this season but from this YouTube reel he does look very good. I’m sure someone on here posted that on a player comparison site the PL player he best matched with is Demarai Gray, would take that, a younger version to play on the right.

Yeah that was me. Picked it up online that the closest player to Johnson is Gray based on lots of stats.

Sounds like a positive signing.

I'm assuming by 'get our money back' you mean in any future sale price for Longstaff, but whose to say anyone would buy him? Iwobi was bought for £35m and the only "saving grace" seems to be the notion we might get a third of that back in any sale, but no one is interested in him. Obviously a £1m transfer fee with sensible wages is hardly a club-killer, and might not be the worst bit of business in the world, but chances are -like Iwobi- he could be just another deadwood player we're stuck with, giving contract renewals to because we can't shift them and we don't want to let them go on a free despite adding nothing to the squad/team.

I dont listen to him. Why would I if I know he's an idiot?

In any case, I just told you: it's like shooting fish in a barrel with Moshiri and his performance.

...like stating that the Royal Family are a bunch of unspeakable scum....it's a given.
How do you know he’s an idiot if you don’t listen to him? He may be a genius, he may be a total tosser, I don’t know, because I don’t listen to him either. Therefore I am unable to hold an informed opinion of him. Isn’t that how it works?
