Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

We probably wouldn't get the long term successor we need to Coleman in the January window

As long as Coleman stays fit, we will be ok (I accept this is a massive gamble, but it's no more of a gamble than having Lucas Digne as literally the only left back at the club in both the senior and U23 set ups currently)

We don't need a striker, possibly not a left winger, but other than that I'd say you could argue that we need a player in literally every position on the pitch.
Yeah I don’t get paying £10million for a RB that can’t get in the Rangers team in January and expecting him to be taking Coleman’s place. We need someone ready to come in and improve the team. Highly unlikely until FFP burdens have eased.

We need full backs - they are by far the biggest priority. After that, a midfielder with athleticism would be the next biggest requirement. But I wouldn't sign anyone in January if the right players aren't available, and I agree that they usually aren't in January.

We are going to be midtable. There's no point wasting money on short term fixes when everyone knows the manager will not be here long anyway. I'd wait to the summer, but we have to actually be proactive. There can be no more second chances for players or contract extensions handed out. We need a complete overhaul, and that means about 10 need to go.

I think it doesn’t really matter who we get in January as we’re probably going to get one or two at the most, unless we have our best players fit for the 2nd half of the season, then it will be a 9th to 14th finish.

We need to target players, who will be here for the next 5yrs. So If we can get this Baba from Mallorca. Say 10mil which is only 2mil a season on the books then great. Or the Ajax RB who’s out of contract in the sumner for 10mil. Or maybe we do a couple of pre contract deals. Kamara from Marseille or Boga the winger who was at Chelsea, now at sassuolo, who out of contract in the summer.

I’d rather this than getting another 32yr old washed up player on a 2yr deal. Or spending money on a 30yr old RB/CB just to get by.

The problem we’ve got if Rafael thinks he has 18months to get this right, then he won’t play youngster and he won’t want 19/20yr olds from the Dutch or french league next summer, who may take a year to settle. He will want prem experienced players. It’s a vicious circle.

I’d rather Moshiri say to Rafael you have 4 years, we may hate it as fans. But we need to give our manger time to build something.
Great post. Can’t blame Rafael or any manager for wanting to sign immediate hits but it doesn’t lend itself to long term squad building.

The short termism foisted on managers, is to a large extent, the rationale for the role of a director of football. Having read your post, I’d say the obvious thing is to appoint a director of football who can provide continuity, take a long term strategic view to squad building and act as a bridge between managers…

Whatever the exact roles and responsibilities are between, manager, dof, Moshiri - it has been an unmitigated disaster. Any competent director should be looking at that arm of the operation, see it’s failing and act. Either by making personnel or structural changes or both. The fact we haven’t, after 5 years of it not working, doesn’t give me any confidence we won’t just keep repeating the same mistakes.

Re January, would rather get nobody if it’s more sticking plasters to the squad. Wait until the summer when players contracts expire, try to offload Gomes, Iwobi etc and then sign players, as you say, that might be around for the next 5 years.

Keane, Holgate, Davies, Gomes, Iwobi, Mina*

*if he wont sign an extension
I wonder how much we could realistically get for them.

Keane, maybe 20m
Holgate, 10-20m
Davis, 10-15m
Gomes, 10-15m
Mina, 30-40m

We’d have to pay someone to take Iwobi, i think it would be wiser economically to use him to cut the grass at FF. At least he’d serve a purpose.

Who would pay £70m for Keane, holgate Gomes and Davies ? I mean I’d love it to happen but I just can’t see it

Under the current financial climate. I would cut your valuations in half.

Will never have a better opportunity to sell either of Keane or Holgate with Newcastle flush with cash on the hip.

CB & CM priorities for me.

RB + RW next summer.

Absolute dreamland with those prices mate. No chance anybody pays £30m+ for Mina given his injury record and his contract expiring in 18 months.

Who on earth is gonna pay up to £15m for Davies too?

The only two I can see would be possibly Holgate and Gomes, both I suspect would be loans with options to buy though.

Yeah, youre both probably right. Keane, Holgate and Davis are all English and count towards the homegrown quota, but I doubt anyone would bother paying extra for them just for that. Mina is the only good player out of the bunch.
