Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

If you were a club looking to sign Digne though, knowing what's gone on, with his likely big wages to shift, and his replacement already in the door would you offer a lot of money?
Don’t ask reasoned questions in the transfer thread.

I wouldn’t even mind if long term this is the plan. We can get money back on Digne as he’s 28, on a big contract etc. That’s fine.

You don’t do it in the middle of the season. Fans need to grasp that.

This could actually be a sensible move - we’re planning on selling Digne in the summer so we’re going to give this lad 6 months to bed in. Should have done that with Gbamin and Gana, for example.

But no, fans (and probably our manager) get excited and think real life is like FIFA and you can just replace like for like. Then the 22-yr-old LB you’ve punted your entire budget on has a few bad games and suddenly Godfrey is back in there, never getting the chance to actually develop as a centre-back because he’s always playing full-back

If someone rocks up with £40m next month/Summer for Digne and this lad is half decent then fair play as we are desperate for money but I mean... he's not worth that much and we've already stuck our desperate stall out.

If Digne was staying, Godfrey being back up it would be gross negligence to spend any more on a left back before a right back

All things point to Digne being sold
Or Godfrey is right-back back-up mate, which would make more sense.

Have no issue with Digne going in the summer: that’s what a sensible club would do. Sign the replacement before the player leaves, gives chance for everyone to bed in.

If Benitez has genuinely had an argument with Digne and then decided that means he wants to sign a youngster for 20m in the middle of the season when we have a shoestring budget, then it’s just all very worrying

Godfrey is going to have to become a full back until he learns to win headers. He got away with another couple last night. I don't think he can defend well enough to play centre half.

City did want him last season but he was happy to sign the new deal. He really likes (or liked) it here. That might have changed mind

Because the manager fell out with the current left back and has an enormous ego. There is no way back with Benitez because he thinks he's infallible.

Personally think he's done it on purpose. Transfer is too quick to have gone through (especially as Rafael has full control now) and it's too much money for us being "cash strapped" for him to be a back up.

Conquistador Masterpiece

But we’ll never know unless he’s given an extended run which, because of poor recruitment in other areas, he hasn’t been
