Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

It's about time we proactively sold a stagnating player whilst they still hold some value before they completely fall off a cliff. If this allows us to sign a much younger replacement on probably about half the wages along with a right back then I certainly don't see a problem with it.

We have to sell to buy, that is our reality. We can either sell someone like DcL or Richarlison, our two most crucial players for what seems forever now or we can sell players like Digne (completely out of form, and was before Benitez even arrived here) and Mina (has many fitness problems, again before Benitez arrived here).

It may be that we have to sell one of Richarlison or Calvert-Lewin even after moving Digne and Mina on but we should certainly look to sacrifice the players we can cope without before losing the players we can't.

Because the manager fell out with the current left back and has an enormous ego. There is no way back with Benitez because he thinks he's infallible.

I dont think its that coincidental to be honest mate, i think the "manager" had Digne on his death list for a while as a sellable asset and as an example to lay down a marker and his authority etc - the "falling out" is all to coincidental - this was premediated and having this deal for a new left back in the pipeline was just the trigger. Might even be one of the issues Brands walked over.

We can't be spending our entire budget on a left back? Surely there is more in the pot and or players including Digne, Holgate, Tosun are gone? Other positions are screaming out for reinforcements.

It's definitely the Digne money. But we've basically bought a new car to replace a perfectly good car...just because we didn't like the colour

Lad might be a good player, i dont know, but it does seem unnecessary, we know Digne is top drawer full tilt, this manager hasn't got the best out of him, its another example of waste of resources at the club, we hand Digne a new contract last year then sell him within the same year, for what purpose or improvement? - I dont know, seems unnecessary especially as so many other areas need strengthening.

Wouldn't be surprised to Digne rock up at Newcastle.

I agree 100% - we need to improve our transfer dealings both buying and selling. We can’t keep hold of lads past their sell by date as we need that cash to re-invest. Must admit I’m not that bothered selling digne provided his replacement can cut the mustard. He’s flattered to deceive since his first season and I agree with him in that he’s better suited to a possession type team which we’re clearly not at the minute.

I've no issues with how good he is as a player..could be Roberto Carlos regen for all we know.

It's just, like you say, and completely unnecessary purchase due to an issue Benitez created.

33 year old Coleman is still first choice right back.

I think the majority would go along with this, not just with Digne but any player. The only problem is that replacements haven`t been good enough for the Championship let alone replacing our best players...

Just going off past evidence, don’t think there’s been a single player come straight from an Eastern European league and step up to a big league straight away let alone the prem of the top of my head for as long as I can remember . Odds aren’t in the lads favour especially at our basket case of a club

Ivanovic (lokomotiv Moscow - chelsea)

Vidic (spartak Moscow - Manchester United)

Skrtel (zenit- liverpool)

Kanchelskis (shaktar - Manchester United)

Modric (dinamo Zagreb - spurs)

Theirs a few of the better known ones mate.

Thats it the rush of blood, to head when you see we're signing someone and then you see its a left back, if you had to pick our five best players Digne is in there, some club will bite our hand of for him, City actually could do with a left back. Its not a priority position for us. Just seems stupid to me in terms of improving, its just moving deckchairs around on the titanic and we're not sure whether our new one is better then the one we were sitting on, but we're paying almost all of our money for the new one.

Same old story over stocked in some positions and woefully low in others areas - you'd despair that we actually never learn anything.
