Digne is now 28 going on 29 and this is probably our last chance to get any sort of a fee for him. Personally think he’s past his best now and it would be a smart piece of business to sell him for around £20m if we can get that.
Agreed. As much I like him, he's one of our few players that have any actual value and with the financial hole we're in, it does make sense to sell him now. As others have said, the question is the price.

Just waiting on longstaff now

28 the new 30 now?

It's generally the peak of a players career if you can get it out of them. But that's just me.

Meh never been that impressed with him tbh - good crosser off the ball but even that has dried up since the start of last season.

Gives too many daft fouls away - I think Coleman being so poor on the other side makes Digne seem more important than he is to us.

Get a good level RB+LB come in and we'll be better off in the long run imo.

sorry but this is nonsense. You acknowledge you've no idea how good he is, but are against the swap on general principle.
We should ALWAYS be looking to improve the team, and if that means moving out good players to allow better ones to come in then that's fine and dandy.

Because left back has never been an issue until last month under Rafael.

And you move bad players out for better. Not good. It's called a squad. We have a bad squad with bad players and a handful of good ones. That's not changing in this area.

And what's s new left back gonna do? Stop us conceding on a regular basis like a 1 man wall? Really?

Or Godfrey is right-back back-up mate, which would make more sense.

Have no issue with Digne going in the summer: that’s what a sensible club would do. Sign the replacement before the player leaves, gives chance for everyone to bed in.

If Benitez has genuinely had an argument with Digne and then decided that means he wants to sign a youngster for 20m in the middle of the season when we have a shoestring budget, then it’s just all very worrying

I think he's seen Godfrey play left back twice mate and thought "that'll do".

I'd be amazed if we don't find out Digne has a deal sorted somewhere as there's just no way we have a budget of 20m to sign on a left back when we are so short in other areas.

Don't need lukaku's goals....

He's been our most creative player since he signed.

He only gives fouls away because he's left one v one all the time.

You rightly say Coleman is poor. Why are we spending £17m on a left-back instead of a right-back?

Reece James and Mount said "that'll do" last night when he let them ghost past him twice in 10 mins where they missed sitters...and got the goal.

I'm not advocating him as a left back mate, I'm just saying I think that's what Benitez will be thinking.

I posted in the Godfrey thread last night, he didn't look right to me from just before Chrlsea scored onwards. I genuinely thought he was going to collapse at one stage as he just seemed so confused
