Presser just now Benitez stated he spoke to The mosh yesterday and following James release / sale there is money to spend in Jan. also said we are fortunate to have owner who are willing to spend, but have to do it in the right way….
He is spot on there. Credit to the manager for bringing Gray and Townsend in for such a reasonable price.

We seemed to have got ourselves comfortable with the idea of spending 30-50 million on average players, it is quite shocking when you think people are being paid good money to bring these sorts in. Football in general needs some sanity bringing back in.

Interest peice here about how some of our players are on ‘champions league wages’ but aren’t showing anywhere near the quality….not that we should believe everything written in the press :coffee:

I think that's cause he mentions Gomes in that list, he is on big money.

We defo dont listen to some kopite that puts vodka on his weetabix every morning.

Benitez was just asked if we could spend in Jan after James leaving, and said he spoke to Moshiri yesterday and that they think yes it has freed up some FFP.

We still won't have loads but it's on Brands now to get these deals in motion starting right now. We've already been in for Diaz, he wants to come, make it happen and if the owner has to inject cash, then we'll have to offset it with sales and wage releases next summer because that's what we're going to have to do anyway.

We need quality up top, we're so short. But obviously, we need a right-back too. They shouldn't be mutually exclusive.
Brands is the problem

Sack him and let benitez choose the players we sign

Theres no point in having two heads on the block

So we apparently had zero money in summer (ignore the bids we were throwing about for Diaz, dumfries and rangers player as they don't fit with any agenda).

We have let James go and we now apparently have money to spend in jan because of that. Let's be generous in this case and accept the view he was on 200k a week. So that's 15 weeks of saving 200k by january. So we have saved £3m in that time. Looking forward to sorting out the squad in Jan with that huge sum.

Well, we dont start paying him again in January, so you must take his whole wage away, which is 6m.

Thats enough for 3 Demzs Grays.

If Rodriguez being here somehow stopped us spending anything in the Summer he should never have been signed in the first place.

It was one of the reasons (his wages on the FFP limits). Without shifting those wages off the books, we were over the limit or right on it for the P&S rules.

We're now 150-200k p/wk better off in that regard so it will definitely help.

But the reason we can't afford a player like that - when we should be able to if we want to push on - is because we have genuine wasters who are on much more when you combine them together. Not helped by the fact we can't currently do anything about a certain now 32-year-old footballer.

If the numbers quoted in recent weeks are true, then James should not have been signed. We cant afford that sort of money and his availability means he's not worth that money either.
