Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Maybe. I dont want to get into specifics, but I wouldnt be surprised if contracts had a clause in, which said for certain offences, if a charge is brought it is suspension without pay. That would be quite typical within the public sector.

Either way, insurance will likely cover any fees if he is unable to play. If he is found guilty, they may also seek damages.

A messy situation. I dont want to get into specifics, but I would be very surprised if the club were picking up wages. But I didnt negotiate the contract, so it is just an educated guess.
All opinions like, but mine is that it’s highly unlikely the club has insurances for covering wages in such instances as there are too many scenarios where a claim could be made to make the policy feasible.
In a case that in no way bears any resemblance to any possible ongoing proceeding that may or may not have any relevance to the staff of EFC, PFA contracts have certain provisions in them for disciplinary action

My view would be, it would be very unlikely the club would be covering his wages.

I wont go into any more specifics, but this is why you have insurance.

But back on topic before the thread is :locked: if there’s any truth in shifting at least £260k per week of wages for a bunch of players who simply don’t play then Brands work over the preceding windows is going to look very tardy indeed.
And should Digne be replaced with this Ukrainian fella that will no doubt add a further £60k at least to that figure.

I don’t think you can take out insurance against that sort of eventuality. You cannot insure against illegality. Either the club is paying, or they have suspended payments pending outcome.

I would imagine you can insure against actions that may be deemed in breach of contract, and would imagine it is a fairly standard protocol.

Before it gets to that, I suspect it is the latter. Suspension pending outcome as you say, if nothing comes of anything payment will probably have to be made.

I dont want to go too far down a rabbit hole, but a conversation will have been had privately, which will guide how the club handle things. If the player was unhappy, he could always seek damages.

I'd imagine his wages are off the books, or if not, if a player goes to prison, there will be an option to reclaim from the clubs perspective.

From The Athletic
  • Digne fell out with Rafael and he wants to play Champions league again
  • Hard to see us spending big on a RB and midfielder - loans or budget purchases
  • Nathan Patterson the favourite out of him, Calvin Ramsey (Aberdeen) and Fabien Centonze (Metz), opinions were split on Maitland-Niles in summer
  • Rafael likes Aleksandr Golovin but price tag would be too high, admirer of Sean Longstaff who is out of contract at the end of the season, Athletic have heard whispers of interest in Denis Zakaria (Monchengladbach) and Guus Til (Feyenoord on loan to Spartak Moscow)
  • Everton weren’t as keen on Max Aarons as first imagined and Marcel Brands recommended Donny Van de Beek in summer, Rafael had concerns

You cannot insure against breaking the law. Right now that is not the position. I also doubt you can get insurance against suspension for potential misdemeanour.

What ex vet is going on right now is between the player and the club.

If things go badly, Everton would sue the player.

If we sold Digne and signed Mykolenko + Patterson or Ramsay then its a positive window.

If we signed both right backs then it would become an excellent one.
