Can't help but repeat this but Sigurdsson and Bolasie have cost us £120M.
Horrendous. We massively overpaid for Sigurdsson but to give him his due he has contributed in his time here. Not as much as he should, but he has a bit. Bolasie, Tosun, Delph and Iwobi are the ones who really make me feel ill. Wouldn’t even like to see the figures for them 4 combined.

And thats the problem - fans think we have £100 million to blow and get angry seeing us scrape around the bargain bin for players like Longstaff, Townie & Rondon like Benitez is purposely refusing to sign Top 7 quality £30+ million players instead.

You cant waste the dough we have these past 3-4 years under FFP and not have 1-2 windows of austerity and budget signings to rebalance the books.

We'll only be spending dough on the Ukranian Lad and a RB because we'll be flogging Digne most likely.
Yeah, Allan and Doucoure are our first choice, but we have a load of backups that are costing 10M per season each, give or take, in Gomes, Gbamin and Delph. They arent even close to justifying that and someone like Longstaff will come in and cost us 3 or 4M per season and do the same job as them... If not better. Just simple maths that we can't afford that much waste

Literally not seen a single post on here from anyone saying we should or will be spending 100million, yet again you are making things up ( you do this a lot )

What we are saying is, and I don't think it's hard to grasp but clearly is to you, that longstaff kid does NOT improve our team, not even in the slightest so going out and handing out a multi million pound contract to him under our current circumstances is suicide.

spending isn’t the only sign of ambition tbf, having a plan to go forward with a young side with a certain style of play headed by a young coach and the balls to stick with it like palace are trying is every bit as ambitious as anything we’ll do over the next few seasons.

An ambitious side doesn’t appoint Benitez as manager nor sticks with him having gone through the worst spell in decades playing anti football
Be serious they had hodgson for 4 years, and had to watch then most boring football ever . And they wanted Nuno. And they thought that he had accepted the job. Vieira was probably 5th choice for them. So they got lucky, it wasn’t some grand plan

Let’s see where they are after 2/3 seasons. Not after half a season. They’re 4 points ahead of us and we have 2 games in hand

He’d offer a lot more than Delph on a much smaller wage, so yes, it is a better backup situation

I never hated Hibbert, always thought if he was about 2-3 inches taller he'd be a CB and probably in the England squad. Guy was a rock usually defensively. I do recall people slating him for going forward and I get that part but, personally, I love Hibbert. Great player for us.
He was a very good defender, in his prime there were very few wingers who gave him a roasting.

You didn't really watch Robertson at Dundee United then, did you? He was raw. Very, raw. Patterson is indeed miles ahead of him at this stage. Not just my opinion, but that of the Scottish international management, given that he wasn't capped until just before he left for Hull city, so I don't quite get how your assesment on how he was the best full back in the league rings true with history. Never said he was miles ahead of Tierney. Just the closest comparison to him to have came out of Scotland since. Albeit opposite flanks.

In respect of Simunovic. He's a player absolutely ruined by injury. It cost him his move to Seria A, failing his medical, a league you clearly hold in high estime given your thoughts on Hickey's ability and average showing there.

I have no vested interest in this move other than I think it's a great one for this club. Merely giving my opinion, and also a little insight into current stage, which I am party to.

You are welcome to your opinion.
He wasn’t raw. He was a young player who was clearly talented and had everyone questioning how the [Poor language removed] he was playing in the lowest level in Scotland as an amateur the year before. The fact he was voted in the team of year is probably a good indicator that he was the best left back in the league that year as well.

He got capped in his first year as a professional footballer. That’s not something to hold against a player by the way… and that’s even under a manager who didn’t play McGregor and Armstrong until he came under pressure. He’s also the same guy who thinks the Scotland team couldn’t qualify for major tournaments because of genetics and suggested the answer to the problem would be big Scottish men and women breeding together.

Hickey hasn’t been average for Bologna though or he wouldn’t have the likes of AC Milan and Napoli interested.

You’re the only person peddling this drivel about Patterson being better than Robertson and close to Tierney at the same stage. It’s simply not true no matter how little resistance you get on here because people don’t watch Scottish football.

So Longstaff coming in on 50k a week and fit to play most games when needed is somehow worse than Delph being fit for 2 games a season being paid circa 70k a week to sit in the physios room 50 weeks out the year?

You're talking nonsense im afraid chap.

Any port in a storm to have a pop at the manager/whoever he signs.
