Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Most of that is fair, all I would say this window smacks a little bit of panic by the board, who wouldnt be splashing the cash, in my opinion, if we were in a comfortable position in the league.

I'm hoping that in a way it at least acknowledges that things arent right and need changing.

Let's wait and see on Digne, but I am sure you would admit our recent transfer outgoing business has been terrible in terms of money recouped.

I'd agree with that 100%.

I think although we were looking at mykolenko I highly doubt we were looking at getting him in and I'd imagine if we are after Patterson we were happy to let him develop for another season before we went back in for him. The recent rift between benitez and digne as well as Coleman continued decline has lead the board to have to at best step up plans to an earlier stage, at worst panic buy full backs.

I know our inability to sell players was my major issue with brands as DOF but wages were a massive issue with that. I'm hopeing that because of the teams that will be looking at digne his wages will not be an issue and selling him will be achievable this transfer window.

My worry is as of this moment digne is a very attractive prospect but every transfer window after this one his price will drop and he is on way to high wages to not be starting for us.

Nope.

The "reset" will involve selling non-key players with a decent market value (think Digne and Mina) in order to raise some funds and to ease the excessive payroll issues. Add to that the likes of Delph, Tosun and Sigurdsson reaching the end of their contracts and leaving, this sees the payroll reduced again.

The aim is to get the outgoings under control and to sign younger replacements on lower wages. The purpose of this is to create a healthier financial model so that we DON'T have to sell the family silver (DCL, Gray and Richarlison).

Think of it this way: if a club knows we are strapped for cash they can put in a lowball offer for DCL... If we are financially healthy then any offer has to be bigger.

And a final point: our financial model cannot continue to be to make multi-million pound losses every year. Once the club starts to break even, that momentum and direction of travel has to be maintained and become the new normal.
That's not a reset though, that's just incremental improving things as you'd still have 200M worth of losses on the FFP total... A reset would be making a decent profit.

I just know a couple of deals close that’s all, the LB had been done for a while

Seems to suggest in his answer it is Digne OUT, Patterson IN.
Will be interesting to see if Digne is included tomorrow in the first 11 or on the bench
Not sure we can afford to let Digne go atm , the squad looks ravaged with injuries & Covid.
No Richy ,No Townsend ,Mina ? Who knows. DCL not sure will start after long lay off.
Dont think the squad has improved since the Leicester game got cancelled.

Would love Trippier here. Newcastle are getting relegated regardless so he should really be thinking that’s not the best move for him.
We’d get 2 good seasons out of him.
Everyone keeps saying that Newcastle are down regardless, this isnt the case.... No doubt they will sign a new backline in January and they are only 2 points from safety despite having only won 1 of their 19 games.

Burnley and Watford just cant pick up points and I think Norwich, Burnley, Watford and Leeds are all worse than Newcastle having seen Newcastles last few games before they were stood down.

I think we will get two more...One will be Patterson and the other will not be Ramsey, Trippier, or Coutinho.

2020/21 season chance conversion % per PL official stats:
DCL 19.3%
Vardy 18.3%
Salah 17.5%
Kane 16.8%
but yeah, he’s just a target man...
He is a target man, I imagine 90% of those conversions / chances taken where in the 6 yard box.

He doesn’t have the attributes of any of the others you mentioned. Nothing wrong with being a target man, stick to your strengths.

I think if 2 young highly rated players are signed in Jan then I don’t see an issue with Coutinho for 6 months, anything longer then yeah agreed.

Newcastle will stay up fairly comfortably IMO.

I don’t think he will extend his contract though. He wants to play for a CL team.
Aye, you're almost certainly right. So play on his ego and offer him a contract extension that includes a minimum fee release clause at £75m, restricted to overseas CL-qualified teams. "We want you for another year Richy, but we won't stop you leaving if PSG, Barca, Real, Inter or whoever comes in with a proper offer. Just sign here mate."

Maybe, they did play well against United to be fair.
