Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Thank you mate.

I really do understand all the anger directed towards the manager. I get it. He's not my cup of tea either.

But the suggestion that this exact same set of players is capable of a top eight finish without any additions, and therefore should be excused their current widespread crapness, is utterly incredible.

No manager can cure Mina's injury woes or help Keane become pacy and incisive. No manager can make Gbamin's legs work or get Andre Gomes to play effectively for anything more than a 25-min cameo off the bench. No manager can make Iwobi more coordinated, or tactically aware. No manager can make Tosun care.

These players have failed under what, 3 managers? 4 maybe? Why will they suddenly be injury-free and committed under a new manager?
Those players aren't good enough for where we want to be, but you can't cherry pick them and ignore the relegation form and tactical ineptitude.

I find it baffling that we have fans these days who are more interested in sell on value than actual performances and winning on the pitch. I don't get it.

Maybe because Moshiri's spending wasn't sustainable. You should always try and keep your best players but if one moves on then they're at an age where you can get big money to reinvest.

Moyes bought a lot of early-mid 20s players so he could build a team. Walter signed a load of older players and we were going down the same road with Carlo.

Dom and Richy will be out next season

And we've seen what we're like when they don't play

To the tune of £150 mil though

If we moved on the 16 players i listed (5 out of contract + Digne...with the others split this and next window) and needed 3 starting players + 3 squad players.

We would be able to bring in real quality.

I think we could hold onto DCL and Richarlison for another season and also extend their contracts if we did that.

If not then we would need 5 starters and 3 squad players and have a huge warchest and alot of wages free to use.

Which Bentiez will have control over.....

Yeah however we've not been known to be any good with money

Digne out and Mykolenko + Patterson in is good business.

Replicate that and we wont go far wrong.

I think a new CB really needs to be priority, cannot bear watching Keane and Holgate together and Godfrey isn't having a great season either.

What a bloody mess. Our defence is genuinely shocking and probably championship standard. These new lads need to hit the ground running, which is a bit unfair, especially the Ukrainian.

RB: Patterson/Coleman
CB: Godfrey/Branthwaite/Welch*
LB: Mykolenko/Nkounkou**

Sell Holgate / Mina / Keane for circa £35-40mil and release £230k ish in wages

Sign one of the u23 aged group big talents plus an experienced player 32+ on a short term deal.

*Welch just to make up the numbers
**Nkounkou back end of season

Its simple really.

Successful teams have huge prize money and commercial deals in comparison to non-successful teams.

Established clubs are rolling out youth players to promote into their squads or sell at a profit.

These teams can then reinvest that money to sign the best players and stay at the top.

How does a team like Everton break into this group and be successful without having comparable commercial deals and without having 3 top youth players to promote each season?

You need to play the FFP game where your squad value increases and when you sell a player for e.g £30mil you sign 2 players for £15mil each who then become worth £30mil each in a season or two.

Example: Digne leaves and Mykolenko becomes the next Roberto Carlos and Patterson the next Cafu.

Can we keep those players or would we sell them for huge profits and then reinvest into 2 more future world class full backs along with the next Ronaldo and Lewandowski.

Building like that also allows you to spend more money on established players as 'wheeling and dealing' opens up a larger credit within FFP.

I happen to think theres a 'top 8' group of 11 players in the squad. The issue is the tactics, fitness and the quality of the rest of the squad.

Its a numbers game and we need to have more good players.

He took over a team that finished with 59 points and were inside the top half for the entirety of last season. That’s a ‘fact’.

Truth is you are all right we need a CB an energetic dm and a creative spark sadly we aren't getting all three in this window. We have to hope Mina gets fit, and Benny plays three in midfield(can't see it) and we loan a number ten.
