People need to accept that to bring any more players in, even on loan, we're going to have to shift others out.

We need a better senior CB than Keane. If Mina could stay fit he'd be the guy and Keane would be out the door tomorrow, but Mina CAN'T stay fit. Factor in contract situation too = Mina needs to leave in this window or the summer. If he stays until the summer then someone else has to leave now to free up salary space and generate transfer funds... Step forward Mason Holgate and JJK.

We need a youngish, commanding central midfielder who is very defensively competent - he will sit slightly behind Allan and Doucouré in a 433, allowing both those players to maximise their strengths. To create salary space for this player, and to generate funds to buy / loan him, we need to sell or loan out Gbamin, Delph or Gomes. I need to see Gbamin and Delph gone ASAP in any event.

Not necessarily, the Patterson and mykolenko deals factoring in amotization look like they'll of only cost us initially around £8m (if reported fees are to be believed).

By the looks of it with the james and kean deals we've probably freed up around £15m. So there's still probably enough to bring in one more player.

Having said that it looks like we need to bring 4 or 5 in this window and I imagine digne is going to go and I'd imagine 1 cb is off as well.

yeah I know we have. Anything close to £60k a week for a 22-year-old from Dynamo Kyiv seems over the odds, to be honest, but it's the Premier League I suppose, and it's Everton

Agree we need a much better, first-choice senior CB.

Problem is, we'd need to sell two of Mina, Keane and Holgate before we buy, otherwise a third of our squad would be CBs and half of those CBs would be getting paid over £50k per week to not play.

I can see Holgate going soon tbh, he’s been available for sale and who knows what’s happening with Mina. I can see him being sold too. Getting 2 quality cbs in January isn’t easy though.

Digne didn't play yesterday because he's about to be sold for something like £25m or £30m. You are fully aware of that.

The manager failing to put Godfrey at LWB does not equate to it being wrong to sell Digne. You are fully aware of that too.

We should be beating Brighton at Goodison regardless of whether Lucas Digne plays at LWB / LB for us or not. Because we've spent half a BILLION on players in the last five years. You are fully aware of that too.

Digne isn't saving us from relegation by himself.

Digne should have played in the system that Benitez employed though. Benitez put him on the bench, therefore he was available. There's no defending the manager.

The manager has also created this entire situation which has left Everton without any bargaining power.

I think a new CB really needs to be priority, cannot bear watching Keane and Holgate together and Godfrey isn't having a great season either.

What a bloody mess. Our defence is genuinely shocking and probably championship standard. These new lads need to hit the ground running, which is a bit unfair, especially the Ukrainian.

No manager can cure Mina's injury woes or help Keane become pacy and incisive. No manager can make Gbamin's legs work or get Andre Gomes to play effectively for anything more than a 25-min cameo off the bench. No manager can make Iwobi more coordinated, or tactically aware. No manager can make Tosun care.

These players have failed under what, 3 managers? 4 maybe? Why will they suddenly be injury-free and committed under a new manager?
