Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

I mean I remember using that same logic with Sandro.

Luckily these lads won't be on massive wages (though the £58k rumored for Mykolenko seems high).
I think we have been burnt too often on wages mate.
Can’t see him being on that much in fairness
But we do have idiots running the club!!!

People need to accept that to bring any more players in, even on loan, we're going to have to shift others out.

We need a better senior CB than Keane. If Mina could stay fit he'd be the guy and Keane would be out the door tomorrow, but Mina CAN'T stay fit. Factor in contract situation too = Mina needs to leave in this window or the summer. If he stays until the summer then someone else has to leave now to free up salary space and generate transfer funds... Step forward Mason Holgate and JJK.

We need a youngish, commanding central midfielder who is very defensively competent - he will sit slightly behind Allan and Doucouré in a 433, allowing both those players to maximise their strengths. To create salary space for this player, and to generate funds to buy / loan him, we need to sell or loan out Gbamin, Delph or Gomes. I need to see Gbamin and Delph gone ASAP in any event.

Who is Welch?
There is no way we can get rid of them in one go. Will sell Golgate, Keane, Iwobi, Gbamin and Rondon though. Not sure on Gomes and Davies.

Lonergan - contract is up free transfer
Coleman - keep as back-up and be mentor of Patterson
Holgate - sell
Keane - sell
Mina - our best CB, give him a new contract
Digne - will be gone this month
Kenny - contract is up free transfer
Davies - sell or keep as backup
Allan - keep
Iwobi - sell
Gbamin - sell
Delph - contract is up free transfer
Sigurdsson - contract is up free transfer
Tosun - will be gone this month
Gomes - keep as back-up probably the only one who can pass a ball in our midfield
Rondon - sell

Welch is one of the players in the u23s. Highly rated and 'may' be able to be 4th choice centre back. Makes up the numbers.

Instantly we have: Sigurdsson, Lonergan, Delph, Kenny, Tosun out of contract and Digne looking likely to go.

So that leaves the following:

Coleman
Holgate
Keane
Mina
Davies
Allan
Gbamin
Gomes
Iwobi
Rondon

This window we need to move on 5 of them.

Summer we move on the other 5.

Welch is too inexperienced. I do agree the current strategy. Buy young players with potential.

Holgate, Keane, Gbamin, Iwobi and Rondon - 10M in total?

But we aren’t selling Digne because of a shrewd financial calculation , we’re selling him because the manager has fallen out with him.
Furthermore the public nature of this fall out means the buyer may hold an advantage over us and we receive less than we could have.
We have been forced to buy a promising young Ukrainian lad , who because of our circumstances may not be afforded time to settle in the PL before he is expected to perform.
There is nothing planned or calculated about this situation it is a massive cock up representative of very poor management.
I refer you to my previous post. The one you quoted.

Selling Digne at his peak value is a good move for a club absolutely riddled with debt.

Bringing in a highly-rated 22 year old international as a replacement LB for £17m is not a bad move as all.

Bringing in a highly-rated 20 year old international RB for £12m is not a bad move either.

Using the proceeds of selling Digne to bring in Mykolenko and Patterson is good business. Even if the outcome was stumbled into by accident. Or do we just keep Digne until he can't do the job anymore and can't be sold, like we have with Coleman?

Not sure if we will get an actual fee for Digne. I don’t think we will.

Yesterday the alternatives to playing Digne failed miserably and contributed to us sacrificing 3 valuable points in the fight against relegation.
I take exception to your implication that this situation is purely beneficial.
It is the product of stupidity.

We'll be lucky to sell five of them in total, sadly.

Coleman could stay as backup RB, I could live with that.

Keane's here until next January at least.

Selling Allan now would mean we'd need two new starting CMs instead of one. He should stay until next January at least.

We need a new attacking midfielder who can play centrally and on the right. The moment that player appears, Iwobi can go.

We could shift Holgate, Mina, Gbamin, Gomes and one of Rondon or Tosun this week and we wouldn't miss them. Start there.

Its both a numbers game and about foundations being built.

17 players from a 23 man squad

GK: Pickford / Begovic / Tyrer
RB: Patterson / ???
CB: ??? / Branthwaite
CB: Godfrey / Welch
LB: Mykolenko / Nkounkou
DM: ??? / ???
CM: Doucoure / Onyango
LW: Gray / Gordon
AM: Richarlison / Dobbin
RW: ??? / Townsend
CF: Calvert-Lewin / ???

16 Players out:

Lonergan
Coleman
Holgate
Keane
Mina
Digne
Kenny
Davies
Allan
Iwobi
Gbamin
Delph
Sigurdsson
Tosun
Gomes
Rondon

If we manage to move on those 16 and bring in 6 new players (in addition to Mykolenko/Patterson) to complete the squad then in theory:

1: Wages should be freed up to increase the deals for existing key players.

2: Transfer fees should be generated to bring in top quality players

3: Squad is younger, more athletic, higher value and shows progression.

If players still want to move on then were in a better position to let them go and bring in replacements.
