Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

The problem isn't the defence , well it is plus the midfield , but actually the real problem is Benitez.

Yesterday you saw what a proper , modern coach can do with a group of players that man for man is inferior on just about every metric to our squad.

Yes it is...and thats all of your post im reading.

Balance Zat , you need a mixture of experience and youth.

Yesterday we were crying out for legs and enthusiasm up front but the clown brings on Rondon instead of Dobbin , plays 2 centre forwards with no one on the left able to cross a ball.

In other games ( if we ever get a lead ) we may need someone more experienced to come on to bolster midfield or defence.

The answer isn't kids all the time.

Is that a line of duty reference :p

What part of the post on the defence do you think correlates with relegation?

Patterson Godfrey Branthwaite Mykolenko

+ Nkounkou + Welch possible squad players
+ A new Right back + A new Centre back

Seems a decent foundation to me as long as the next 2 signings are very good players.
You have Patterson at 20 who hasent had any sort of extended run of first team football yet.
You have a new to the prem Mykolenko, who unless you watch ukranian football we have no idea how he settle in.
You have Brantbwaite who looks a player but struggled with consistency to stay in the blackburn side last year after a run of games.
And you have godfrey who after 18 months is yet to show he can hack it at centre back in the Premier League.

The back 4 has potential, but if you want to go into the PL with that, you are mental, they would get eaten alive

Disagree...i got to the bolded bit and stopped reading...actually Im joking but you see the issue with not reading the post in full?

This is what I think...using the ages by the start of next season:

GK: Pickford (28)
RB: Patterson (20)
CB: Godfrey (24)
CB: Branthwaite (20)
LB: Mykolenko (23)
CM:
CM:
LW: Gray (26)
AM: Richarlison (25)
RW: Gordon (21)
CF: Calvert-Lewin (25)

Average age of 23.55

What we 'should' be doing next is aiming for a defensive midfielder and a centre midfielder under the age of u23.

Add in certain squad players for next season such as (possibly) Nkounkou, Tyrer, Welch, Onyango, Dobbin...

...then suddenly we have 16 high potential players out of a 23 man squad.

Its a pure numbers game. There are still 7 positions available in the squad for:

GK
RB
CB
CM
CM
LW/RW
CF

Certain existing players such as Doucoure/Townsend/Begovic could take up a spot next season.

But they key is to bring in and develop u23 aged players and rarely deviate from that.

Get the squad value up so theres no worries again with FFP.

Again, another who didnt read the rest of the post. I didnt say that was a starting back 4.

I also wrote we need to add a right back and a centre back.

Patterson and Mykolenko will have experience by the start of next season id expect...

As for Mykolenko i find it hilarious that there were so many Dumfries experts on here who wanted the utter donkey but no one remembers Mykolenko from the same tournament...or the european games hes played in.

I mean i didnt watch either in the summer...but thats pretty funny lol

FWIW id hope we sign a starting centre back and a defensive midfielder who have more leadership and quality than anyone else currently in the squad.

Wasn't my proposal, was just being realistic. Calvert Lewin and Richarlison are almost certainly off during the summer given the current predicament
So surely the right approach is to address the predicament now? Given that if you don't do it now, you'll have to do it anyway AFTER one of DCL or Richi leaves?

We need a RB. Looks like we're getting one, in exactly the right age bracket. We're selling a non-key asset (Digne) to finance it, and bringing in enough to replace the player being sold too. This is a shrewd move, at least financially, and improving the balance of the back 4 (by bringing in a desperately-needed RB) might help to get us back on track in terms of on-field performances.

If you're worried DCL and Richi might want to leave, then the sooner they start to see the club trying to fix things the better, surely.
