Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Need a top CB and a mobile defensive midfielder or a manager with tactical nous and without ego and stubborn pride. The latter is cheaper.
No manager can cure Mina's injury woes or help Keane become pacy and incisive. No manager can make Gbamin's legs work or get Andre Gomes to play effectively for anything more than a 25-min cameo off the bench. No manager can make Iwobi more coordinated, or tactically aware. No manager can make Tosun care.

These players have failed under what, 3 managers? 4 maybe? Why will they suddenly be injury-free and committed under a new manager?

I'd rather we just don't sell one of our better players to appease a manager who won't be here in 12 months. It's infuriating this whole situation. It's being encouraged from the top, they are absolutely convinced they've got the right man. They couldn't have got it more wrong.
Whether Benitez is the right guy or not doesn't alter the fact that selling a 28-year old fullback at his peak for enough cash to sign a new RB and a new LB is more financially astute business than we have seen from the club in the last five years.

Our five most important players are ( in no particular order ) Pickford, Doucouré, Gray, Richarlison and DCL. Digne is a good player and I like him, but he's not irreplaceable.

£5m loan fee with obligation to buy for £25m and them paying 100% of his wages would work out really well for us tbh.
I can't see Chelski paying a loan fee AND covering Digne's wages. I'd be made up if they did, but it would represent poor negotiating on their part.

The scenario you describe would be an absolute result for us, and I hope you're right!

Holgate
Keane
Coleman
Kenny
Delph
Siggurdson
Gbamin
Davis
Iwobi
Rondon

Not good enough to wear the blue shirt
A bit unfair on Coleman who has been a fantastic servant for this club until recent failures by management have forced him to extend his playing career at premiership level longer than he probably himself would have chosen

Wasn't my proposal, was just being realistic. Calvert Lewin and Richarlison are almost certainly off during the summer given the current predicament

So surely the right approach is to address the predicament now? Given that if you don't do it now, you'll have to do it anyway AFTER one of DCL or Richi leaves?

We need a RB. Looks like we're getting one, in exactly the right age bracket. We're selling a non-key asset (Digne) to finance it, and bringing in enough to replace the player being sold too. This is a shrewd move, at least financially, and improving the balance of the back 4 (by bringing in a desperately-needed RB) might help to get us back on track in terms of on-field performances.

If you're worried DCL and Richi might want to leave, then the sooner they start to see the club trying to fix things the better, surely.

Its both a numbers game and about foundations being built.

17 players from a 23 man squad

GK: Pickford / Begovic / Tyrer
RB: Patterson / ???
CB: ??? / Branthwaite
CB: Godfrey / Welch
LB: Mykolenko / Nkounkou
DM: ??? / ???
CM: Doucoure / Onyango
LW: Gray / Gordon
AM: Richarlison / Dobbin
RW: ??? / Townsend
CF: Calvert-Lewin / ???

16 Players out:

Lonergan
Coleman
Holgate
Keane
Mina
Digne
Kenny
Davies
Allan
Iwobi
Gbamin
Delph
Sigurdsson
Tosun
Gomes
Rondon

If we manage to move on those 16 and bring in 6 new players (in addition to Mykolenko/Patterson) to complete the squad then in theory:

1: Wages should be freed up to increase the deals for existing key players.

2: Transfer fees should be generated to bring in top quality players

3: Squad is younger, more athletic, higher value and shows progression.

If players still want to move on then were in a better position to let them go and bring in replacements.

Depending on where they play, the flanks of Mykolenko/Gray and Patterson/Gordon look far superior and more valuable than what we were dealing with before.

You mention Doucoure (who i rate highly) as being in the top 5 important players.

If offers came in for Doucoure, Allan, Gomes, Gbamin, Davies, Iwobi with Sigurdsson and Delph out of contract...

...id sell them all. Have Onyango as 4th choice and bring in 3 new u23 aged players.

Its something which weve been crying out for.

Nothing wrong with that list, however, I'd personally keep Allan.

But we aren’t selling Digne because of a shrewd financial calculation , we’re selling him because the manager has fallen out with him.
Furthermore the public nature of this fall out means the buyer may hold an advantage over us and we receive less than we could have.
We have been forced to buy a promising young Ukrainian lad , who because of our circumstances may not be afforded time to settle in the PL before he is expected to perform.
There is nothing planned or calculated about this situation it is a massive cock up representative of very poor management.

Ive been a big fan of Allan but under Benitez the centre mids need to be far more athletic and mobile.

If Doucoure/Onyango are for one space then the other needs to be defensive minded...so Allan for me would be moved on.

Contract + age an issue as well.

We have no idea if Benitez engineered this...but he seems to have moved very quickly on the replacement.

Who is Welch?
There is no way we can get rid of them in one go. Will sell Holgate, Keane, Iwobi, Gbamin and Rondon though. Not sure on Gomes and Davies.

Lonergan - contract is up free transfer
Coleman - keep as back-up and be mentor of Patterson
Holgate - sell
Keane - sell
Mina - our best CB, give him a new contract
Digne - will be gone this month
Kenny - contract is up free transfer
Davies - sell or keep as backup
Allan - keep
Iwobi - sell
Gbamin - sell
Delph - contract is up free transfer
Sigurdsson - contract is up free transfer
Tosun - will be gone this month
Gomes - keep as back-up probably the only one who can pass a ball in our midfield
Rondon - sell
