Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

No, I agree.

However, keeping those players and hoping to recruit a manager who can make them click is a naive approach. Only Ancelotti got anything like a tune out of them, and people were calling for his head by March because the style of play was "boring".

We need to sell some overpaid underachievers from the squad and bring in new, younger, cheaper players. The current manager is apparently doing exactly that. Whilst I still want him gone in due course, the playing staff are the more urgent issue IMHO.
I wouldn't say so. They're turd but not relegation turd.

Taverner is no superstar believe me I am at Ibrox every second week (COVID allowed) and I can't wait for Patterson name to be regular on the team sheet,I want him moving nowhere because in my opinion he is the best player in Scotland at the moment and will go far whether it's Everton or other clubs who I fear are tracking him money will take him away from us even though he is a born and bred Rangers man.
Don’t worry we’ll manage to ruin him and you can have him back for free in 2/3 years.

Well I've never thought Godfrey was decent from the day he signed so not exactly fickle is it?
He's played well exclusively at LB which is mostly down to not having to win headers as frequently and having extra time to cover his lack of reading the game with his pace. If you're fine with a LB and maybe RB who can't do much with the ball but occasionally have a lung busting run then congratulations Sean Dyche, Godfrey is your man.
Rio Ferdinand doesn’t agree with you and neither do I. Let’s agree to disagree.

Hang on a moment, you rate Iwobi highly don’t you? Why am I even debating with you? Haha

I think Godfrey, and Davies to a lesser extent show how poor are coaching is.
Davies was used by Allardyce to run around like a headless chicken and kick people, then he would be in the middle for 20 mins, then a different position for 20 mins another game as sub.
Godfrey, will play left back, right back, CB and then left again for a bit and CB.
He should be coached and played in one position and given time to see what he can do.
Defence is probably the most important positions to have stability and time to create partnerships.

With a left back and right back seemingly now in, we must be looking for a central midfielder next surely?

I’ve heard really good things about Lewis O’Brien from Huddersfield but he’s been heavily linked to Leeds. Coming from Huddersfield he might be available cheaper than a lot of the ones we are linked to and you’d think he’d have a desire to prove his worth more than many too
I saw a bit of their game shown on Sky in the last few days , seemed a good player, I thought he was much older.

Ferdinand rates a lot of young English defenders

No idea how old he is but caught a podcast talking about possible transfers this Jan and the journalist mentioned him as one that may go to the PL and specifically said he is very energetic, not afraid of a tackle and can carry the ball forward too.

All in all it sounds pretty much exactly what we need to go alongside Doucoure and Allan or Gomes although I am not convinced the last 2 are up to it long term

JJK
Holgate
Keane
Davies
Delph
Gomes
Iwobi
Rondon
Tosun

Name a prem club for whom each of the above would walk into the first team. Or even compete for a place in the first team.

Now consider that Mina and Gbamin can't stay fit.

Now consider Sigurdsson.

We have a paper-thin squad in terms of quality. However we have twenty-four senior outfield players on the books, a wage bill that would make Daddy Warbucks wince, and somehow we cannot put out a first eleven with a decent player in each position.

There are only two windows per season where clubs can buy or sell players, and we're in one of them now. We need to fill some massive holes in our first eleven and we MUST sell some players to make room on the payroll (and to finance the purchases from a sustainability point of view)... yet some people want to stick with the squad we have, fire the manager and hope that whoever we bring in can magically fix it all despite the fact Carlo Ancelotti struggled.

Absolutely bananas.

Last time I checked, @TheBigIguana thought Doucouré was useless. Don't waste your time!
