Name a prem club for whom each of the above would walk into the first team. Or even compete for a place in the first team.

Now consider that Mina and Gbamin can't stay fit.

Now consider Sigurdsson.

We have a paper-thin squad in terms of quality. However we have twenty-four senior outfield players on the books, a wage bill that would make Daddy Warbucks wince, and somehow we cannot put out a first eleven with a decent player in each position.

There are only two windows per season where clubs can buy or sell players, and we're in one of them now. We need to fill some massive holes in our first eleven and we MUST sell some players to make room on the payroll (and to finance the purchases from a sustainability point of view)... yet some people want to stick with the squad we have, fire the manager and hope that whoever we bring in can magically fix it all despite the fact Carlo Ancelotti struggled.

Absolutely bananas.
Yes the squad is riddled with issues and players who aren't good enough it's a dysfunctional hotchpotch assembled by half a dozen managers and two directors of football. But I could name you at least a dozen managers who would be getting more out of this set of players simply by organising them and playing them in a formation that suits ie 433. We have some good players compared to many sides in the bottom half so it comes down to injuries and how they are coached and set up as well as their quality. One win in twelve is a scandal. He has to get results regardless of the rebuild or he's done.

Excellent post.

The greatest Managers and coaches in the world can't fix a poor squad. The incapable players, and those even more incapable that assembled this terrible squad, need to go ASAP.

Look at the table and every side above us bar the top four and then look at the German league and managers there or the Ajax manager. There were multiple options over this busted flush. I mean if I could see ANYTHING in performances and what we are building toward I would be more forgiving. But there's only so long injuries is an excuse also tactics and reactive substitutions won't change if we have better players he is proven to be a divisive negative manager, if you set up defensively you have to get results. Instead the players look confused and awkward in their positions, we can't keep the ball, we have no pattern of play beyond sling a cross in or hump a long ball, we can't defend set pieces he just had 17 days and that's what's served up? Hardly confidence building is it? Brighton could have easily been four up at half time yesterday.

You are overestimating this squad, mark my word no manager could succeed unless you get rid of half of them atleast.
It's kind of the like there is a general careless central psychology that has developed amongst majority of players, they just don't care , look at them they hardly react to goals when we conceed or hardly celebrate when we score...they just want to get rid of any responsibility, and hence they end up pointing fingers at each other , try to blame each other for mistakes.
This central toxic psychology is very difficult to break unless you replace core of the team.... That's where a stick comes handy , two of them at the core are gone 5-6 more to go, and we might put probably see a new mentality (just like what Gordon is displaying ) developing. And Benitez is probably the best to break this vicious cycle, he is ruthless.

Sorry, that's a long post but it doesn't answer the question.

You said you could name a dozen managers who could come in and do a better job than Benitez. I asked you to name them.

I presume you didn't mean the likes of Tuchel, Klopp, Guardiola and Conte, who obviously won't be leaving their current clubs to join us. Equally I doubt you meant Ancelotti, who chose not to be here.

Give me some names of managers you would bring in to replace Benitez now.

Has not learned from that game, the Burnley game etc etc. Honestly genius tactics. The only time genius tactics applies to Benitez is what position to start at the Chinese buffet.
You need to have weapons to have any tactics to work at the first place. Give him a team that he builds (atleast half of them? and then may be we can discuss tactics and his tactical astuteness ...
Almost every poster here agrees that the squad is horrendous, paper thin and plagued by injuries yet they say he should do well . I don't know how these two things go togather...if tactical geniuses like klopp and Mourinho or for that matter any of the top teams coaches can do wonder with a [Poor language removed] squad why do they even bother to spend millions every season, and why do they only join the top sides at the first place.
The thing is squad strength matters, individual qualities matter. Tactics can only make things work if you a 1-2 players short on talent not with what we have right now...

We usually have 11 utter weapons on the pitch every game my son. That's the problem.

God bless.
