Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

I'm not against Benitez getting the boot. Not at all. But his replacement needs to come in almost immediately.

Why?

Because the transfer window is currently open, we have about a dozen players we virtually all agree are pony and need to be shown the door, and we desperately need a starting central DM and a starting CB.

What I'm saying is get those players in ASAP, and get rid of some dross ASAP.

If a new manager candidate can be identified and brought in BEFORE the end of the transfer window then sure, go ahead. But don't bring a new guy in and tell him he can't buy or sell anyone because unless he's Carlo Ancelotti you aren't going to see much improvement.

the last few posts have seen people suggesting Frank Lampard, FFS. How does Lampard get Keane and Holgate playing better? Or Davies? Gomes? Delph? Come on.
He’d take us down. The first half of his first season was good. The rest completely unremarkable.

1) I never said it was acceptable.

2) I never said there wasn't. I asked for names.

Lampard? Nope. Sorry, I don't see anything to suggest he can do anything in the Prem.

Arteta... I'd take the gamble on him. But he's not leaving Arsenal to join us, is he.

I don't watch German football, so I'll take your word on Streich.
No Arteta is not coming, thats why I said I wanted him in the past. I wish we had gone for him but hindsight is great.

I'm convinced Lampard is good. No one will change my mind but thats football. I do find it a bit remarkable how people can be so against him but rate Benitez. I'm not sure what they've watched in recent years but its not what I've seen.

Kovac is also available right now and I would be very interested.

I think the biggest thing is getting someone who will bring a clear plan and identity. When was the last time you watched an Everton team play and thought I get what they are trying to do here? We seem to change shape every week and play people out of position. Yesterday was just a shambles with zero balance. No one left sided player other than Pickford in goal!!

Look I don't disagree with much of that they are mentally weak. But it's still not relegation fodder. The telling stat is how they perform in second halves when his tactics have been dispensed with and they just go for it. We have scored 75% of our goals in second halves often from losing positions. I think we should be mid to lower mid table not plummeting toward the bottom three that isn't over estimating it's recognising how much difference a good coach can make.

I purposely said take the top four and maybe six managers out of it as they aren't realistic right now. Then look at more realistic ones like Potter, Rangnick, Rodgers, Lage, Frank then look to Germany and France and you have the likes of Marsh, Farve, and Galtier from last summer. Fonsceca is still unemployed. You can't guarantee but you look at our squad and the quality in it and we should be around mid table lower-mid at worst just by organisation and modern tactics. Not plummetting into a relegation battle.
Rangnick and Rodgers aren't leaving their current employers to join us mate. There's nothing realistic whatsoever about suggesting either of them (plus Rodgers would split the fanbase every bit as much as Benitez, wouldn't he?)

As for your other suggestions - I'll trust that you watch foreign football more than me and you may be on to something with a few of them. But don't you think they'd want to make a purchase or two if they came in?

I had no idea Kovac was unemployed. I agree with you, I'd have him in for an interview tomorrow. Excellent candidate.

Recently sacked at Monaco despite the team showing an upturn in form. Somebody (@Zatara , I think) said they are 6th and underachieving with the squad they have. I personally think he overachieved during his first season. You can't write off what he did with Frankfurt either.

Probably wouldn't I am saying that profile I suppose the club is so obsessed with EPL experience it's one factor but so is how they can implement a vision and a modern style of coaching and play. Young progressive, hungry coach yes I know we tried it with Silva and Martinez but neither had a good enough record. I just don't see shirt term appointments like Benitez working I was willing to give him time because we do need stability and a rebuild but only if he could get a baseline of results but I don't think he ever will.

Yeah I don't disagree with that at all. I don't actually think there's necessarily a good option. I'm just at my breaking point with Benitez and the club in general. And I don't think Ferguson would do better outside of a small bounce like last time.

We are in a really weird spot with transfers in general. I think Moshiri's recent actions have shown that he's not about to fire Benitez, but I also don't believe that he will be the manager by the start of next season. But we desperately need players, no doubt about that.

Lampard wasn't a ton worse at Chelsea than what Tuchel is doing now. There are worse ideas.

Kovac might be an option. Honestly think days of the old dog manager are gone, need to have mentality to go head to head with the Peps, Klopps etc and it needs to be a young manager with progressive ideas and willingness to adapt.
Carlo, Jose, Benitez et al days are firmly behind them.
We probably shouldn't be worried about going head to head with City right now.

It was a power struggle or something along those lines with their sporting director. Great for us, we don't have one. Hand it over, let him get to work.
