Villa Fan in Peace...

I have posted here a good few times in the past and I often pop in to read the views. So far I think you guys should be happy, two new much needed fullbacks and decent ones at that. These positions were the biggest gripes I have seen here in the past.
There is obviously a problem with Digne, lots of Villa fans wanting us to sign him but the general feeling is he will go to Chelsea to replace Chilwell or City to replace Mendy. How the hell can a player that can't get in the Everon side be linked with two of the teams in England and then Toon offer 22.5m plus Longstaff for him. Is it an attitude issue he has or is the waiter being an idiot?
He has been I decline the last 18 months. I suppose he wanted European football (who doesn’t) to enhance his prospects of getting in the french side. The dismal way we ended the season (he was part of the reason) and the subsequent falling out with benetiz means his days are numbered. Like what’s already been discussed, his qualities are very much going forward less so defensively. Playing for a Chelsea or City those defensive frailties won’t be exposed too much (apart from in the champions league) but if he joined say yourselves, West Ham and definately Newcastle those defensive failings would be exposed.

Not as sure on that as most seem to be mate, I remember a 6 month stint in 2019, when he looked an excellent player. He then had a horrific injury and I think it’s taken him a while to come back from, Newcastle has been a destabilising environment over the whole time of his return.

Id put him somewhere in the Gray category, of potential but lost. Whatever my feelings on the manager, he knows him better than anyone else.

I went to see Johnny Giles once and they were listing of highly rated midfielders and he said whether he ratted them or not, he gave a few surprising yay or nays, when asked on what guided him, he said he always looked could a player turn on the ball receiving the ball facing his goal, to face the opposing. Longstaff can turn on the ball.

It’s a risk, but I see why we are interested.

So another Gomes then?

Keep telling yourself that, bud. He's going to be quality for his next club and we'll still have page after page about how he was rubbish. It happened with Stones, it happened with Lukaku, it will happen with Digne.

I don’t want him to go even if there has been a drop off in the high standards he’s set over the last 18 months. He is going to be difficult to replace, certainly what he adds offensively to the side. I just don’t think he’s happy at the club and not just with benetiz.

Didn't take long to change his mind on what has happened

Remember when they said we had bid £55m plus tosun and Mccarthy for zaha. Then we came out straight away and said we hadn't?

Then the hard faced bastards had the absolute cheek to go live and say we were lying lol

Even if he was decent he's not now and 24. The problem with the Gray comparison is Gray was good at Leverkusen in limited minutes. Longstaff is not good right now.

Can’t believe you rate longstaff as excellent. He is not as good as Doucoure and we don’t even use “excellent” to describe Doucoure that often.

If we sign any players, they must be better than all our current midfielders.

So the Athletic have linked us with Ronald Araújo, how is this even possible??

Imo the Athletic are solid so it begs the question, if this approach has been made is Mosh finally saying screw FFP?

Also with Ronald Araújo being one of the worlds best CB’s how the hell do we appeal to him?

Imagine him replacing Keane, having Mina Godfrey and Branthwaite as options next to him plus 2 pacy hungry full backs… i would be so much more confident with our defence

Why do i bite the bait on these fate changing links?

He's just done his ligaments in, so that's cool.

At least Digne is much older so we won't be reminded about it forever lol I think Digne will be quality but I also don't think he is anywhere near the level of a Lukaku or Stones. Also not totally against him leaving, better for him to leave when we get a high fee than to stay and decline until its too late like with Coleman. We are throwing Myko a bit under the bus here, and the manner of Digne's departure is far from ideal, but overall not our worst transfer business we've done depending on the deal.

His contract is up next year and Holgate (maybe) and Digne are leaving so we won't be flat broke. It's interesting, if it happens it definitely wont happen this summer. I suspect we will be linked with a number of Barcelona players as they sell off assets to fund their big-name signings.

Nothing wrong with Digne, obviously has his faults but one of best LB’s in Prem. the problem is down to Benitez being a pr*ck and refusing to play him probably because Digne didn’t bow to him when he entered the room

Araujo is class and of course only 22.

Godfrey, Araujo and Branthwaite as the 3 main centre backs moving forward would be nothing if not progressive compared to what we have now.

The only issue i can see are the number of muscle and ankle injuries he picked up last season:
