Not as sure on that as most seem to be mate, I remember a 6 month stint in 2019, when he looked an excellent player. He then had a horrific injury and I think it’s taken him a while to come back from, Newcastle has been a destabilising environment over the whole time of his return.
Id put him somewhere in the Gray category, of potential but lost. Whatever my feelings on the manager, he knows him better than anyone else.
I went to see Johnny Giles once and they were listing of highly rated midfielders and he said whether he rated them or not, he gave a few surprising yay or nays, when asked on what guided him, he said he always looked could a midfilder turn on the ball under pressure, receiving the ball facing his goal, to face the opposing. Longstaff can turn on the ball.
