Villa Fan in Peace...

I have posted here a good few times in the past and I often pop in to read the views. So far I think you guys should be happy, two new much needed fullbacks and decent ones at that. These positions were the biggest gripes I have seen here in the past.
There is obviously a problem with Digne, lots of Villa fans wanting us to sign him but the general feeling is he will go to Chelsea to replace Chilwell or City to replace Mendy. How the hell can a player that can't get in the Everon side be linked with two of the teams in England and then Toon offer 22.5m plus Longstaff for him. Is it an attitude issue he has or is the waiter being an idiot?
Mate, we played a fella who has been past it at right back for two years at LB. This has nothing to do with ability and everything to do with the cult of personality a fat toad has introduced to the club whilst simultaneously acquiring our lowest points total for decades. Digne is a quality fullback, Benitez is a past it troll, Digne will tear up the league at his new club while we languish in the lower reaches and tools like @davek, @Saint Domingo and @ForeverBlue92 cheer our decline.

The manager kerbed the attacking side of his game and the defensive side has declined in the last eighteen months. Then as Benitez has lost games he was said to be one of the players who criticised the tactics and questioned him so Benitez dropped him and hasn't made up with him since. Made an example of him and then sought to replace him. It's a crying shame really. Why we are all in on Benitez is beyond me.
As a neutral to Benitez, there is a lot I like about what he does. But, the football is terribly defensive so what u say makes sense. He is an astute manager and I think the talk of Everton getting relegated is nonsense, absolutely no chance IMO. But I think Benitez was brought in to keep the ship afloat while u build your sexy new stadium and to keep costs down and maintain PL status. This is a similar role he had at Toon i.e. don't spend money and don't get relegated. He will deliver on that mandate but the football may be a bit painful. Things will be a lot brighter when the stadium is completed and then u can move forward (as long as u keep your owner away from making transfer decisions)

Even I know he took over Toon in March and got relegated that season, so he didn't spend money before relegation and took over when they were screwed anyway. But he won the Championship at a canter (at the first attempt (Iwe were in the Championship too, so it is a painful memory) and brought them back up and kept them in the PL

He was one point from safety when he took over Newcastle. He's a busted flush.

I agree he is a busted flush but he is still astute. He is not going to win anything or do anything exciting but he is a safe pair of hands to play horrible football and guarantee PL midtable each season without breaking the bank

It is like we are preparing for the championship.
If we survive this season, we certainly won’t the next.
If you have enough bog standard players in your squad Keane, Coleman, Holgate, Delph, Davies, Rondon who get significant playing time on the pitch, you’ll end up there.

That's like 7.3 million too much

Not as sure on that as most seem to be mate, I remember a 6 month stint in 2019, when he looked an excellent player. He then had a horrific injury and I think it’s taken him a while to come back from, Newcastle has been a destabilising environment over the whole time of his return.

Id put him somewhere in the Gray category, of potential but lost. Whatever my feelings on the manager, he knows him better than anyone else.

I went to see Johnny Giles once and they were listing of highly rated midfielders and he said whether he rated them or not, he gave a few surprising yay or nays, when asked on what guided him, he said he always looked could a midfilder turn on the ball under pressure, receiving the ball facing his goal, to face the opposing. Longstaff can turn on the ball.

It’s a risk, but I see why we are interested.
