Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Yeah you do have a point tbf - I think a system change and new full backs would make a difference. But also worried about how our centre backs are equipped to deal with any other style that isn’t just sitting deep.
Yep, the CBs can't but they're also offered little protection in front. I don't know on Patterson, but Mykolenko's numbers suggest he isn't actually an aggressive player, despite the assumptions that he must be because he's from Ukraine!

He doesn't go in for a lot of duels, he likes to wait and not confront players by the look of his numbers. Which is fine, I'm just not sure that suggests an aggressive defender.

Well he's not going anywhere so I would get used to seeing him in the first team for the next few years. Personally I think he's decent, and given more freedom could get us 10 goals a season from midfield, which is an area we lack goals from.
Never scored 10 goals in his life. Hes
Was definitely a player we need At the time. Power energy.
But quite a few iff’s and buts there. We will probably have a different manager this time next year and he only has a year left on his deal In the summer.
Though I would expect the club to give him a new deal

Think it's been different wherever he's been - At Valencia he had Aimar as his number 10. Gifted player, but he really did graft which was sort of unnoticed, so he helped out Baraja and Albelda behind him

At Liverpool it varied, but by the end he seemed to have settled on Gerrard as the number 10 and he also helped out Alonso and co behind him.

Can't remember how he set up at Napoli tbh

Here it's been Richarlison, when we've had players fit enough to choose from, and that really has been more of a 4411

Tend to think your distinction of 4231/4411 depends mostly on who the number 10 is tbh
Yeah that's true but there's a big difference between footy now and 6/7 years ago mate, never mind 15-20. The game's moved on.

the only good teams that play 4231 atm are Bayern, Ajax and Milan. And they play it very well and in very different leagues.

Mina will be next. Yerry and Digne are reportedly the two highest earners at the club.

Mina is the player who maybe does need to be sold though. He is into the last 18 months of his contract, has injury issues, and there hasn't been any rumours of a new contract extension that I'm aware of.

We can't afford to let good players with value leave for free. Either he has to extend his contract or he should be sold. It's not ideal, but there isn't any way around it.

Id take Kamara over Zakaria every day of the week.

But id also take Guimaraes over Kamara.

Funnily enough, if we moved on Allan, Davies, Gbamin,Gomes + Delph/Sigurdsson out of contract in summer...

...we could afford both.

Now, those two with Doucoure either in a 2 or a 3 would be very good.

Should be imperative that we move on 5 or 6 this window.

No way we get rid of that many players this window.

And the only point i'm making in return to you is that you can believe thats the best model to follow overall AND that an individual example of it isn't the best idea at that moment in time. I want us to play open attacking exciting football but I don't want to see us go to the Etihad playing Kamikaze football and losing 8-0 and this is exactly the same thing. You're allowed to think it's good and i'm allowed to think it's bad but saying people are stupid because this is what they asked for is wrong it's not that black and white.

I’ve not said anyone is stupid. I said it’s bipolar behaviour.

It is black & white when you compare two different approaches to signings.

We either go for ageing or over the hill type signings on big wages/ and or big transfer fees. (Which is near on unanimous in terms of what frustrates us fans)

Or you take punts on young players with potential to improve. (Which nearly everything I read is that we never do this)

The only other profile signing I can think off is players in the 20-24 year old bracket thst are already household names, which we know right now we can neither afford or attract.

Gbamin, would happily see us accept even something stupid like 5m for him. A truly miserable signing, as many here could have predicted at the time. Some no-mark from Germany for 25m. Only Everton could do something mad like that.

Delph, rightfully off at the end of the season, and isn't Sigurdsson out of contract too? Even though the latter clearly won't be seen in L4 again.

If we can offload Davies too, what with Baningame gone now too, that'll be an amazing five-some of awful players off the books.

What is this absolute tosh? No one could have predicted his injuries.

Can tell you’re a floppy da from this alone.
