Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

I agree with both you and stevenlloyd but my point is that simeine who wants a move just for guaranteed game time would struggle to get that if the current form continues
Certainly it would be difficult for anyone to break into the team currently but it’s pretty much inevitable we’ll struggle with injuries at times and what we have currently on the bench isn’t good enough.

So you’re telling me the cockney media are trying to flog the cast offs from their darling clubs, to us.

I doubt we would pay even half what Spurs wanted. And he doesn’t come across as the type of midfielder Rafael would want.

what makes me laugh is the keep on saying for more game time. All we have is league football and the FA cup when it starts. He is not getting in ahead of Alan or Douc. Surely he is better off at Spurs where they have that second rate Euro comp for him to play in

This will be one for the vaults potentially, but I wouldn't mind Winks at all.

Once you get past Allan and Doucoure, we don't have another centre mid at the club that I'd particularly want anywhere near the team. Winks hasn't been in good form for a while, but an on form Winks looks after the ball better than any centre mid we have with the arguable exception of the one game in 30 that Gomes turns up.

Couple of things on this - at some point, if we carry on our good form, teams are going to sit in and not let us break on them and at that point having someone who can pass the ball well may be something we need. Secondly, having a deep-lying midfielder like Winks (at his best) who can pass the ball and has vision to execute a pass may well be a good thing from the perspective of helping us transition up the pitch quickly at times.

If Benitez wants him, I would accept that he sees a tactical role for him and would be confident we'd see a better version of the player than the one we've seen at Spurs since Pochettino left. Benitez has credit in the bank on this front at the moment, given the tune he's getting out of the likes of Gray, Townsend etc
I tip my hat re Gray and Townsend but for Winks we would actually have to pay a decent fee for. We clearly have very little money we can spend so I think serious questions would need to be asked if it is spent on such an average player. I thinking it is shocking if we can’t find a better proposition then Winks in one of the other European leagues right now. My dad is a Spurs fan and it is clear Harry Winks is held in such low regard by the supporters their fairly similar to the Arsenal fans with Iwobi when we signed him

Would all depend on the fee - if you're talking £30m or something, then absolutely not. He earns about £50k per week apparently, which is reasonable enough by modern standards. If you could get him below £15m then that's not too bad as a punt, but ideally you'd want a loan first

I’m not sure what the FFP implications are for the January window. If it’s the same financial period then presumably we are still hamstrung although it does seem we maybe had some money available for one reasonably big signing such as Diaz as long as we could shift James.

Certainly wouldn’t want to shell out £20 million on Winks!

He wouldn’t get anywhere near our 11 abs Spurs would probably want 30mil we need to learn our lessons, in wasting money on average players. And also helping our rivals so Spurs can go and pay 50 for a top class midfielder.

Would Spurs buy Tom Davies or Gomes off us.

Actually, Gomes played his best football under Nuno, so you never know

He obviously did not break through there but don’t believe he was mocked like Winks and Iwobi at their respective clubs

Another vault potential here, but I've gone back to having a vague glimmer of hope on Iwobi - mostly based on how he played at Brighton and Benitez's recent comments on him...

“In terms of his future, his attitude, the way that he is training and playing, I am really pleased

I think that the fans appreciate that he is giving everything on the pitch.

And we are working specifically with him and with the wingers about movement and positioning.

And then I think he is improving and he is enjoying this improvement.

And I still [think] we can improve him a little bit more because he is working so hard in the training sessions and he has so much potential.

[If we] keep working with him, I think he will be a much better player at the end of the season.”

But isn’t this normal for every new manger to try and improve the players they inherit, especially if finances are tight. But there will come a time when Rafael will give up on players and will tell the club to get rid.

Yep, but other than DCL I can't think of another player who any manager we've had in recent years has managed to improve

Benitez has improved Doucoure and Mina noticeably in a short space of time and most people would agree that Townsend and Gray look in the best form they've been in for an awfully long time (if not ever). I'm just vaguely hopeful at the moment that we've got a manager in who *can* actually improve players. It's a large part of the reason I'm not against the idea of Winks or even Van Der Beek for that matter and another why I wonder if the likes of Iwobi might still have something to offer. It's pushing it, but I've not totally dismissed the idea.

Apparently we're in the green now that James has left, not sure how much money we have to spend, but it will be a reasonable amount.
