Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

We had a squad that was far too thin. And we got found out bigtime when the injury crisis hit us. Increasing the size of our squad was absolutely vital, especially with all the rescheduled matches yet to come. At the same time we're looking to the future by bringing in younger players. And to anyone who moans that we're covering the wrong positions, give it a rest, we're not even half way through the transfer window yet !
Benitez didn't want El Ghazi though, to be clear, all the talk (and unfortunately it is from someone reliable) is that Moshiri decided El Ghazi was needed.

So I'm not convinced we can look at the deal and think it's sensible business.

A player doesn't sign if a manager doesn't, in some way, believe he can fit him in. You know this.

Benitez is on board with this signing. Leave the not-so-faceless one's nonsense to Twitter

I'm not keen on this, as I think he has a poor attitude and is another one that lacks legs.

The only justification is that he clearly has stagnated, and a new environment with a point to prove (i.e Lingard at West Ham last season) could get him going again.

A six-month loan may be worth it.

What a crap rumour that is

I've been told a move may happen
But what I've been told is nothing has actually happened
No movement means "I've made that crap up so there's no movement and isn't going to be any movement"

No I don't know. I'm going off the logic that we don't have much to play with but the manager does want Longstaff. Davies is out for at least 2-3 months, Gbamin is available for loan, so I imagine a midfielder is going to be targeted.

So by saying that our lot will just be Longstaff and he’s arriving on the last day of the window, but without having any actual evidence of either of those things being true, it looks as though you were just trying to further intensify the atmosphere of negativity for no reason.

One of the best youngsters I have seen play live from when he was at MK, was unreal in his first few seasons at spurs, but has stagnated unbelievably. I keep thinking each year he will get better, but then i think about Barkley and how he was the best 16 year old bar Rooney I had seen live and look how it's worked out for him.

Bit of a risk, but I would like a 6 month loan.

Couple of outs now and get some more in . This could actually end up a very good window for for people thinking long term .

We need to move on 3 of these this window and the other 4 in the summer.

Holgate
Keane
Mina
Davies
Gbamin
Gomes
Allan
Iwobi

I like that we’ve brought the young players in and I would play them fit the rest of this season, so hopefully they will be ready for next year. But El Ghazi offers us very little imo as he probably won’t play. And longstaff if we get him is a poor player, not even a regular for Newcastle Amd was getting booed on Saturday.

Which young players, Gordon, Branthwaite and Dobbin?

I'd like to see us give Onyango a go and hopefully one or two more get a few sub games.

We need to replace a large amount of squad players and the best way is with youth.

Then we can spend more on 3 top signings.

El Ghazi at no loan fee and 50% of wages i can get my head around until end of season.

Longstaff permanently makes no sense. We need to move out all centre midfielders aside from Doucoure/Onyango and reinvest in a top player there and a young backup.

From what I remember (its a while ago now) Alli thrived as the focal point behind Kane...almost like a 'Support Striker'. Just how we use Richarlison.

I think hes a confidence player and can turn a game.

A loan till end of the season I think would be potentially brilliant...

Gives us a chance to have a look at him and see how he fits in. We would need an option to buy.

Right sorry, I didn't feel I needed to say 'not ITK'. It was a guess, I think it'll be Longstaff and that's the lot.

I don't think we will move for a CB this window (there's five at the club) and we've brought in another attacker. We are interested in Longstaff, the manager really likes him, and need a midfielder.

Ali did thrive in that role though he did have Christian Eriksen playing those brilliant passes into him, or Alderweireld from the back

This is true... though you know, we have learned that Carlo didn't want King and look what happened there.

I'd be happy to lay it squarely at Benitez but I reckon he's only said yes to this if it means he can go out and get another jobber that he likes in. It's just a really weird one.

It is a weird one but ultimately players don't sign without some sort of sign off from managers

Even in the case of King, he said himself that Ancelotti promised he'd play and convinced him to come, just didn't happen

Just thinking about this 4231 system...

DCL
Gray Richarlison Gordon
I think thats our best front four.

If we could extend Dobbin's contract and add a top notch right winger + a player to backup DCL then we'd be 'complete'.

Townsend, Iwobi, El Ghazi, Rondon would be obsolete in the summer.

The Alli loan is an interesting one simply as it could give us a short-term push and (big) if he could get back to where he was then perhaps he replaces Richarlison if he leaves.

all about his motivation if he wants to get a spot for england. Has the talent maybe a new club just just be what he needs

I think we've done decent business so far, especially given how early in the window it is.

Digne moving on as a 28 year old high earner, allowing us to bring in two young replacements for likely the same salary, is good news.

I've been saying for a while now, we have too many inconsistent/injured CBs. Keane or Holgate moving on would be useful. I'm surprised we haven't offered either to Newcastle to be honest. Branthwaite can cover where needed.

El Ghazi will add numbers and injury cover.

If we add a DM (not Longstaff) I'd be very happy with that. If we move 2 more out even better. Not sure about Alli. Obviously talented, but is he that committed anymore?

Unbelievable how many fringe/hopeful World Cup players look to be staying at their clubs and getting no game time. I thought we’d be able to get 2-3 quality players who were hoping to play their way on to the plane to Qatar. Am I missing something?
