I’d imagine Barkley would be available for next to nothing now. Doesn’t really play much and hardly any clubs are interested. With us after VDB on loan the way we get Barkley would be a purchase.

I don’t remember if Lampard really rated him at Chelsea though, was it not him that sanctioned the loan to Villa? Maybe he prefers RLC

I had previously thought that was the case but we don’t know the terms of the sale for Digne.

If we received all the money for Digne up front and then paid for the two young full backs in instalments then there is a slim chance we could still have some leverage/financial trickery in this window especially knowing that we have a lot of big contracts falling off the books in the summer
It doesnt work like that mate, thats just a myth that Zat has peddled, the actual formula and how it works out is so complex that we would need many letters after our name to truly understand it.

If you asked me we have not a penny, but there are ways and indeed means and much tricky to make money appear.

Im defo not saying we wont or cant spend, but, who knows.

I don’t see us signing Barkley on a permanent basis. The only way that it becomes acceptable is if it’s a loan deal.

I agree mate. I listen to all sorts of business of sports podcasts that talk about ways to work around the rules and I am hoping that give our owner is an accountant by trade, he knows ways that even certain financial experts on those podcasts don’t.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t see us in a bidding war for Haaland but I am just praying we can find £20m down the back of the sofa to get a midfielder in that will solve some of our problems in the long term and not just in the next 6 months

I don’t see it happening tbh, I’d be surprised if Lampard wanted him.

Lampard has worked with him so if he doesn’t fancy him after seeing him every day in training then I am fully onboard as in all honesty I am not keen on seeing him ever wear our badge again

Lampard played Barkley in our 4-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge. He got two assists that game.

Ultimately, I am willing to trust in Lampard’s views on transfers and hope he can be backed up by Cahill coming in with modern day business in football sense.

If he seems Barkley the best we can get with the money available and the lack of time then I am willing to go with it.
