Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Entering today if I had two key areas worth addressing it would have been a six based on Lampard's past teams, our defensive woes, and striker cover. Both thosee dont look likely to be addressed which I find a bit cooncerning.

I can see the need for some more assurance or improvement with a line breaking mid in DVB. It's a fair loan at the least for a player worthy of intrigue especially on a non committal basis.

The likes of Alli on a permanent is personally ludicrous. To sort out someone who has been inconsistent if not difficult off the pitch, the inverse should be represented by the club they are going to. We are as much a mess as Alli has been for the last two years. You earn the right to take risk like that and base on almost all indicators we have not.

Dele Alli is such a Moshiri Everton move and that is not a good thing.

Lampard was an attacking midfielder, been in London watching Alli and hearing all about him from his contacts.

If anyone can do it, Lampard can. He'll know all about him and it the move is successful then weve got a star player.

As for VDB, he could play as a 6 if we dont sign anyone else.

Id have gone for a specialist 6 but Lampard has played an anchor there with good passing ability in the past. So could be VDB.

Alli is the big risk, the biggest impact on Lampards 6 months here, success or failure, will likely be on his deal.

If Lampard keeps us up and Dele Alli flops then Lampard has still been a 'success' in the short term.

I think preseason is where we could see the big changes/improvements.

Yeah, I’d say Delle Ali is the most recent example of somebody with Lampards magic touch for arriving in the box and being right place right time so if anyone can make him great again…

Also he can be proper snide so he’ll be one of us in no time if he performs

To sort out someone who has been inconsistent if not difficult off the pitch

Dele has never been "difficult off the pitch".

His performances tanked when Pochettino switched to the stupid Diamond formation that, over the whole of 2019's league games (until he was sacked), yielded nothing better than relegation performances. Mourinho came in and he did really well, with Spurs (Dele, Kane, Son) on fire up until Mourinho started panicking about leaking goals and "did a Man Utd" and put his midfielders in front of the defence.
Then Nuno came in and didn't believe in midfielders ?

Dele was a £100m+ player when he was playing in the Siggy role.

If Lampard can play him in a role like he knows and played in, he'll be great. He's just not a winger or a DM.
He doesn't beat his men, doesn't carry the ball, doesn't run through walls - he appears in dangerous places and plays the ball quickly.

Fair play to the club as well. Got a new manager in and have backed him with players he's chosen.

We love to critcise and there is ALOT to criticse, but at least they've asked what he wanted and gone and got it.
It’s refreshing and he’s clearly one of Lampards!
Saying that though, I’d say Gray, Townsend and Rondon were definitely Benitez and obviously Allan and James were Ancelotti’s so we don’t do managers too wrong we just keep hiring the wrong ones!

The main positive reaction to Alli would be that Lampard wanted him as part of his plan, whatever that will be.

The problem with that is, I dont trust the club at all so cant discount that they already had the deal in motion regardless of the manager.

If its the latter I expect a massive failure

Yes. We needed a creative and defensive midfielder, if this comes off we’ve managed to sign two midfielders who are neither.
I guess VdB is going to play deeper but that feels like a real waste.

I'm not going to complain about having more goals (in theory) from midfield, but any money we had available surely needed to go on a more rounded midfielder
