Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Not bad for a teenager playing in the championship.
There wasn't anywhere were i mentioned that he was doing bad

Do you think that can translate to the cutthroat nature of the Premier League?
I wasn't arguing with you, was just responding to Bryan. I think for a club like us he's probably too much of a long term project for the type of fee he'll cost.

Forget Dibling, we need players that can come in now and do a job. We're in deep trouble this season and just because we're a few points clear now doesn't mean we don't need to strengthen the side in January. What happens if Pickford gets injured, Branthwaite gets ruled out for the season? We have Championship backup for these players.
I think we need a mix of both really. Absolutely need a right sided forward, midfielder and 2 full backs who would be ready to come in and be a (big) improvement on what we've got there atm.

Summer for us is as close as you really get to a blank slate in football. Has to be about balance and planning for both the present and the future. Most young players need time and patience to fulfill their potential, and the only way you can give them that is to have reliable senior pros there to take the pressure off them.

Many lessons to be learned from the failings of the moshiri era, but a big one for me is looking at players like Lookman and Antonee Robinson and how they were wasted by us.

Bit of a pointless post this, care to try and improve your response?

he wobbles it a lot with these utter utter grandeur shouts

never seen anything like it ever

it’s not a computer game!

It’s utter lunacy to even contemplate spending 80 (EIGHTY) million on 18 year olds with barely any senior football whilst the club is just about avoiding relegation and still very much in a battle.

Are you genuinely being serious?!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. At the time, neither looked all that. Lookman never really kicked on. Changing managers rarely helps that. I don't recall Robinson but given Baines/Digne it's hardly a surprise.

Lookman to me always looked like he had the quality but was never given the minutes. Remember having a conversation at the time with my brother that he would end up a top player but not for Everton.

Would be lying if I claimed to have predicted that Robinson would develop how he has, but doesn't make it any less frustrating watching myko every week knowing we let him go for peanuts.

The point I was making is more that if we are going to sign young players this summer (which we should) we need to learn from those mistakes and have solid plans on how we manage the development of our young players. When you look at players like those previously mentioned, Patterson, Vlasic, Kean, Nkounkou, Onana, even O'Brien this season - it's clear our strategy behind the scenes has been all over the place. A few of those players are now turning out to actually be decent footballers at other clubs. All they did at everton was stagnate and depreciate in value.

Dibling & Rigg would be wild.

Would have to be £60mil combined at least + numerous add ons.

What would you do with the money then & not sure on where £80mil comes from?
Apologies it was 60, that’s far more reasonable….

I’d go and get a couple of 23-26 year olds who would actually improve us now and still have room to grow.

You’re crazy if you think we can afford to blow 60m on two HUGE maybes (who may not even start in the current team).

Barmy, recipe for relegation.

Ok so you'd spend £60mil on a RW & ACM player for instant impact.

At that sort of money and the players ages you gave we're pretty much looking at the end product rather than someone who may dramatically improve

For £30mil a pop you're not typically getting a 7/8 out of 10 player with previous Thelwell targets; Kudus €46mil, Gakpo €50mil and Diaz €60mil (all incl add ons) all costing more.

Lets say we'd be getting an inconsistent 5/6 some weeks and 7/8 others -- fair as a typical assumption?

I'd prefer to go for a couple of young players with vast potential -- costing more as theyre English -- to build mid-long term with the idea thqt they can become 8/10 consistent players.

With their current ability level and competing against the likes or Harrison & Doucoure I dont think its too much of a stretch to suggest they'd be making an instant impact on the squad at least.

We need to aim for the stars.

We need to aim for the stars.

You don’t aim for the stars with the current state of the club. You change the club first, then that will reflect on who makes the final decisions of spending money.

We don’t need a “statement “ signing first as some have said, we need to see the club change first, positive change and the rest will fall into place.

Eradicate the current culture and i really hope they don’t listen to people who placated the former custodians for all those years. It will be more years of inevitable failure, new stadium or not.
