Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I was, but you used that we were 3-0 up at the time as a reason to poo poo the players actually got on the pitch.

I used a game previously as an example of us using our subs bench also, which was a tight game.
Fair enough but I honestly thought that Harrison and Patterson were brought on in the 89th minute to earn the win bonus if that still applies. Those two subs were not going to change the result of the game.

Just tried to quickly list players we have in now, who I think are contracted beyond this season

Jordan Pickford

Nathan Patterson
James Tarkowski
Jake O'Brien
Vitalii Mykolenko
Jarrad Branthwaite

James Garner
Tim Iroegbunam
Dwight McNeil
Iliman NDiaye
Harrison Atmstrong

Beto
Chermiti

I figure these are off;

Joao Virginia
Asmir Begovic
Michael Keane
Seamus Coleman
Ashley Young
Carlos Alcaraz
Abdoulaye Doucoure
Idrissa Gana Gueye
Orel Mangala
Jack Harrison
Jesper Lindstrom
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Armando Broja

Yikes.
Gueye, Lindstrom and Alcaraz will all be here next season, two spots needed to be filmed are backup keepers, that'll leave us at 18 including Armstrong.

7 spots to then fill including loans. Not exactly an impossible task.

Think people expect a forest line 14-16 players in, not realising they did that in large part replacing their entire promotion squad near enough.

We need to add 4-6 quality additions to have a very decent squad.

Look at the remaining players and the possible exception of Patterson and maybe Armstrong the rest are all first team or at worst good depth for a upper half team contesting for a lower EL spot imo.

Key is can we get those 4-6 players in through the door ofc.

Not sure Virginia would agree to a renewal.

Lindstroms option is £20m+. Wouldn't pay that based on him so far. He hasnt scored a goal in years, we can't keep carrying players in attacking areas who don't score. Not sure he's registered an assist yet either. He'd have to really show something the rest of the season to consider taking that option.
I think Virginia will move, he will get a good signing on fee being a free agent and he is a very good goalkeeper, Lindstrom as a lot to prove before we spend that much on him even though he has improved lately, still got to do a lot more than he does, like proving he can play for ninety minutes.

And to be honest, of that list, I only really expect Gueye and maybe one or two others (Alacaraz potentially) to stay on next season.

I don't expect us to sign Mangala due to injury. I think signing Broja is too risky due to his injury record. I don't think Harrison has played well enough to be bought. Lindstrom has started to improve so maybe possible he stays. I think DCL is going to leave. I don't expect Keane to be offered an extension. Doucoure I'm not sure what way we will go.

Of the rest, I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both of Young and Coleman leave/retire. We might retain one of the keepers but will be looking a back up keeper either way.

We need so much work in the summer that it could go very badly wrong. Signing one or two others yesterday would have made it a lot more manageable.
I think people are overestimating how difficult it is going to be.

Of the players remaining, 8 of them are current starting players (and I imagine gana also stays which would be 9).

So while we need a number of squad players. Only a few will be starting 11.

I have no fears over the summer at all really. I can’t wait. The number leaving, or scheduled to leave, is frightening only in number but not in the names.

8 of the 11 who started on Saturday are still under contract, the other three (Gana, Doucoure, Lindstrom) I’m sure we could keep if we want to. So that’s a solid, decent base to start with- the ones who should stay will stay.

The other players leaving we can pick and choose who would provide value to the squad. The only big name almost definitely leaving is DCL and I’m ok with his time here being up.

Think you’re right with 4-6 quality additions, not an enormous challenge and one we should be looking forward to. Combine that with the core we’re retaining and we’re in good shape. Fill the squad with loans / frees / cheapos / contract renewals and we’re all good.

Apologies did not know it was £20m+.

That is too much unless he starts scoring for fun for the rest of the season or scores a hat trick in both derbies.

Was hardly allowed to get forward under Dyche due to an obsession with defending and having young put behind him.

Since coming into the side properly and allowed to get forward we've scored 8 in 3 games, and he should have had a couple of assists as well in that time - if DCL could finish a sitter ofc.

Fees just south of 20m btw.

Dcl - 1
Mangala - 2
Mykolenko not good enough - 3
O’Brien not a natural right back - 4
If gueye won’t extend - 5
If Branthwaite leaves in the summer after receiving a huge bid - 6
Is lindstrom good enough - 7

Yeah we could get by with O’Brien and Mykolenko but I want us to aim higher. O’Brien could replace Branthwaite.

Key for me is the team whilst small will have little to no dead weight left on the books draining wages for players not wanted.

Gives us the chance to have a very efficient use of wages

We need to bring in starters anyway though don't we? Because we surely want to get much better than we have been? Just bringing in squad fillers isn't going to be enough, we need to improve the starting XI quite significantly. It's certainly not an impossible job but I think it's fair to say that it's going to be a tough gig over the summer.
