Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

But, if he is fit, he can play in 4 positions.
But he's not fit and no, not really. If DCL was fit we wouldn't need another forward, but he isn't. The OP left DCL and Mangala out of his positions list, presumably because of injury, but left McNeil in as justification for not needing immediate reinforcements. I'm just pointing out that he's just had surgery, will definitely be out for a period of weeks, and may be out for longer as there is no info from the club. In my opinion, we are still incredibly light in forward positions and a couple of injuries, for example to N'Diaye and Beto, really changes the complexion of the first team due to lack of cover. This could, and in my opinion should, have been addressed in the January window.

Presume we’ll see some extensions in the summer. Virginia, Gueye Begovic perhaps. Wouldn’t shock me to see Docuoure stay on reduced wages although I hope he doesn’t.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Lindstrom and Alcaraz and whether we take up the options.

Young and Coleman presumably will go.

Just leaves Calvert Lewin to make a decision.

I’d go ape if DCL stayed on. My understanding is that we offered him a contract and he has turned it down; I’d like to think that this has led to us withdrawing the contract offer.

Only way DCL resigns is him coming back crawling on his knees accepting a reasonable deal. That is not happening.

I am not 100% sure where this threadbare view is coming from? Thinking about who can play where (or did in the last 12 months)...not all the below are ideal for every position but we seem reasonably well covered at least by next month with the forwards coming back. Injuries can hit any time for any team of course

1- GK (3)
Pickford
Virginia
Begovic

1-RB(6)
O'Brien
Patterson
Coleman
Young
Garner
Dixon

1- LB(3)
Mykolenko
Young
McNeil

2 - CB's(4)
O'Brien
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
Keane

2 - CM(5)
Gana
Garner
Doucoure
Iroegbunam
Alcaraz

1 - RM/RW (3)
Lindstrom
Harrison
McNeil

1 - LM/LW (3)
N'Diaye
McNeil
Harrison

1 - AM (4)
Doucoure
Lindstrom
Alcaraz
N'Diaye

1 - CF (2)
Beto
N'Diaye

The CF spot looks worst but we should have Chermiti, Broja and DCL back for the run in.
I have also allowed for no one from the U21's breaking through like Armstrong did last year. We regularly seem to have 2-3 on the bench each game

All in all I dont think this was a huge gamble.
Not one genuine right winger there Lindstrom is doing pretty well there but that is not his natural position, we are desperate for pace there. We can get through but the neglect if that and the left back position is maddening. Harrison is a left winger who can do a job on the right and his form is rotten right now.

I've binge read most of this thread and the constant theme revolves around our scary position if we had injuries, especially up front. Yes, but that applies to all the clubs in the lower five or six. Why the panic? At least we've got a very healthy points and goal difference lead over them.

Still waiting for pace on the right. Its been years at this point.

We wil have money in the summer,
Why would you keep doucoure on
Hes on over 100k a week, he’s been horrendous for the majority of the season. We surely will have better in the 10 role,
Ndiaye if we buy 2 wingers, Alacarz maybe and Harrison Armstrong will again be around the first team,
Why have doucoure on the bench earning a fortune.

And lindstrom has done nothing,
Apparently Napoli want like 20mil we can do a lot better than him for that, unless
He finishes the season incredibly, I wouldn’t touch him

What I would say in Lindstrom's defence is that he fits the new system we've been playing and he's been a different player to the one we saw under Dyche, but I do agree - at £20mish I think we could do better
