Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

What I would say in Lindstrom's defence is that he fits the new system we've been playing and he's been a different player to the one we saw under Dyche, but I do agree - at £20mish I think we could do better

Actually I think Lindstrom is playing the role that Moyes wants close to perfectly.

As an interesting aside Pienaar stats under Moyes 2-3-4-2 on goals per season his first 4 here so 11 in 114 (8730 minutes) - pretty much all as a starter near enough. He had 18 assists in the same number. 1 goal per 791 minutes, 1 assist per 485 minutes.

Lindstroms minutes so far are 871 minutes played, to match Pienaars output (which nobody criticised) he'd need like 2 goals and 4 assists the rest of the season. Doable - very much so he's came close to scoring a few times now and if Dom had any finishing instinct he'd be sat on a few assists already, Beto will finish those chances.

And that's comparing him with someone who played out and out midfield with one of the best overlapping fullbacks we've had behind him, Lindstroms currently playing a hybrid wingback role almost for us.

Said it before but since he came in and started plus was allowed to get forward more the side has scored 8 in 3 games and looked far more dangerous.

His stats for Frankfurt btw show a player who can score and provide assists but the eye test shows that right now imo.

Given we've got so much to do during the summer in terms of players in, 19.5m on a lad who is clearly adjusting now to the league, looking like he suits Moyes and the system/team and is still young enough to improve as a player is a no brainer decision to activate the option.

The above is based on his current level of performance btw, if he improves then it becomes an even easier choice.

Oh on Lindstrom, and the comments about his finishing, I'll throw the vid up of him at Frankfurt, players who can't finish don't score those sorts of goals regularly. That's why 20m is a bargain because as his confidence keeps growing that's what we'll get. The one thing Moyes is very good at is getting lads confidence built up.

Sources with knowledge of the negotiations explained to BBC Sport that Everton were in pole position to sign Melia for many months, but the slow pace of the discussions and rival interest saw costs rise.

Interest in the 6'2" striker grew and those factors allowed St Pat's to gradually increase his price tag, while Everton, undergoing an ownership change and battling relegation, are said to have switched focus elsewhere.
Sounds too familiar

That's a lad playing with full on confidence there , something Dyche & his baldy mates managed to knock out of him.

As you know I'm not Moyes biggest fan but I do accept Lindstroms situation will be turned around pretty quickly under him.

My lad was buzzing when he heard we were in for him from Napoli having followed him at Frankfurt.
There's a quality player there in the right system with a manager that encourages him to play his natural game & not shun him for months.
We seem to be doing OK with the 15 to 20 mil signings , OBrien , Ndiaye and Lindstrom.
Alacaraz possibly another.

It’s definitely not a no-brainer.
