Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I am not 100% sure where this threadbare view is coming from? Thinking about who can play where (or did in the last 12 months)...not all the below are ideal for every position but we seem reasonably well covered at least by next month with the forwards coming back. Injuries can hit any time for any team of course

1- GK (3)
Pickford
Virginia
Begovic

1-RB(6)
O'Brien
Patterson
Coleman
Young
Garner
Dixon

1- LB(3)
Mykolenko
Young
McNeil

2 - CB's(4)
O'Brien
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
Keane

2 - CM(5)
Gana
Garner
Doucoure
Iroegbunam
Alcaraz

1 - RM/RW (3)
Lindstrom
Harrison
McNeil

1 - LM/LW (3)
N'Diaye
McNeil
Harrison

1 - AM (4)
Doucoure
Lindstrom
Alcaraz
N'Diaye

1 - CF (2)
Beto
N'Diaye

The CF spot looks worst but we should have Chermiti, Broja and DCL back for the run in.
I have also allowed for no one from the U21's breaking through like Armstrong did last year. We regularly seem to have 2-3 on the bench each game

All in all I dont think this was a huge gamble.
I agree it's not as bad as people are making out, but the drop off from some players to the back ups is quite large and if, for example, we get another injury in CM we lack options off the bench and an injury to Beto and we are moving Ndiaye to CF and relying on Harrison at LW.

Its a bit square pegs/round holes.

All depends of injuries aswell get mcneil back and chermitti add that to alcaraz and the team looks alot better

Can only judge them from what they did at Roma first season, a club that pre takeover had a ire tax annual loss which was double ours.

Put over 100m in capital and a corresponding amount in a loan into the club, along with other financial investment.

Bankrolled over 135m worth of purchases, not including the 10m loan fee for Lukaku and paying his full wages (let's call that overall a 20m rough figure)

So they spent approx 155m on the squad plus wages, sales around about 30-35m, so a net figure around about 120m - remember now Romas losses the tear before were 180m - they actually increased first season under TFG btw - largely down to the spend - they subsequently invested a lot more post that first season and the clubs annual loss now sits at vastly reduced number.

As of last year btw they have invested close to 1bn euro now in Roma. Whilst not loading the club with extra debt but instead having reduced it a lot.

TFG will invest a lot this summer, I've gone on about maybe around 150m, it wouldn't completely shock me if I'm 100m out on the low side though.

They'll have a very specific target for next season and I'm a hundred percent sure it's not gonna be to finish 14-17th. They'll want Europe and they'll want a trophy soon.

If we get the correct CEO with the level of financial backing they will give, then it's an achievable if ambitious aim.
From my experience, you should just pay attention to the managerial appointments. "Make sure" they build a solid football structure.

As for the money, they're loaded and willing to spend. So don't worry.

You don't buy Everton and Roma, especially Roma, if you want to make quick gains by restructuring and reselling.

The idea I got is they have massive amounts of money to spend and their aim is to build their names in Europe with football and cinema.

If we were in 2010, they'd be Abramovich-like figures. Now with all the regulations, financial fair play and so on, they encounter many restrictions. But they have money.

There’s an element of risk I guess. But when you’re arguably at very most 3 wins from a secure point total by the end of January and have a team in fine form it’s a very minute risk really.

If what we wanted wasn’t out there there’s massive downside to clogging up the squad with 2 or 3 filler players just to cover every possible eventuality. The absolute worst case emergency situation is having to put in Sherif or Benjamin or even Graham or Clarke for some minutes, which wouldn’t be a disaster. Better than clogging up their pathway with, say, Danny Ings on an 18 month deal just in case all four of our strikers end up injured at once.
For sure, the recent wins have changed the calculus. Also the form of the current bottom three makes the risk lower too. That being said, I think that having to give minutes to Sherif, Benjamin, Graham or Clark would be a disaster, it's not good for them or for us if we have to give them minutes in games where we still need to pick up points. If we get safe with games to spare and can give them minutes in a low pressure environment then that's different, that's a great opportunity for them and useful for us to take a proper look at them. I would have liked a wide player and a forward in the window, either another international loan or a proper signing (i.e. not an Ings type transfer) but we are where we are. I'm pretty sure we'll be fine but we are an injury to Beto away from having to play N'Diaye up front and Harrison on the wing, which is a waste of N'Diaye for me and, well, Harrison!

McNeil has just had surgery and you're playing him at left back, left wing and right wing!

When does the Summer window thread start? I suppose we could just change the title of this one as the same links and rumours will no doubt come up again

Presume we’ll see some extensions in the summer. Virginia, Gueye Begovic perhaps. Wouldn’t shock me to see Docuoure stay on reduced wages although I hope he doesn’t.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Lindstrom and Alcaraz and whether we take up the options.

Young and Coleman presumably will go.

Just leaves Calvert Lewin to make a decision.
